'GUSTO FESTIVAL' IS BORN, A MONTH OF EVENTS DEDICATED TO THE GASTRONOMIC CULTURE OF MONCALIERESE

First Edition 30 September – 22 October PalaExpo – Piazza del Mercato, Moncalieri (TO) October at PalaExpo is an extraordinary journey into flavors

Four weekends to taste local excellence and more: from tripe to boiled meat, from sausage to cauliflower, a SlowFood presidium, to gastronomic twinning interpreted by chefs and street food selected by Gambero Rosso.

When the gastronomic culture of an area is rich in history, one dinner, one day, or even a weekend is not enough. To celebrate it, tell it and discover it, one flavor after another, GUSTO FESTIVAL is born: the month of gastronomic culture promoted by the city of Moncalieri . For the first time, the products of the Moncalierese territory meet the culinary tradition of Piedmont at the Pala Expo , in a tribute to long-lasting taste 4 unmissable weekends, from 30 September to 22 October.

Gusto Festival is a tribute to our excellence and our history - is the comment of the Mayor of Moncalieri, Paolo Montagna, who continues: “ we have chosen to dedicate an entire month to the story of one of the cornerstones of our identity: the Moncalieri of culture 360° gastronomic experience. Even the location, the PalaExpo, is among the symbols of our great tradition which has roots in the past, but which wants to look to the future ".

NATIONAL MONCALIERI TRIPE FAIR | September 30th and October 1st

At its first edition , Gusto Festival inaugurates its long program, with one of the most typical and universally recognized traditions of the city, since the Middle Ages: the National Tripe Fair of Moncalieri , September 30th (11am – midnight) and 1 October (10am - 9pm), which from 2021 is officially organized by the Association for the Valorization of Tripe 'd Muncalè Onlus , but has its roots in the vision that Luca and Paolo Casto , father and son, enlightened entrepreneurs, when food and wine tourism was not yet talked about as a key to the development of the territory. Today, the link with the origins of the event is kept alive by the widow Ernestina Casto who, despite the years, is always at the forefront of the fair to help serve the trays full of this authentic delicacy, within two days where the products of the territory and its protagonists will be accompanied by various moments of entertainment, cultural meetings, music, entertainment for adults and children from morning until evening.

The curtain therefore opens on 30 September , at 11 am, among the exhibitors' stands with the official inauguration in front of the authorities and the Moncalieri Philharmonic from 12 pm, arriving in the afternoon at 4 pm, with one of the strong points of this edition: the ceremony for the 2023 Food and Wine Twinning , which the City of Moncalieri launched with various Piedmontese municipalities, to demonstrate the fundamental value of sharing which - only through the culture of food - can be developed between different nations and traditions. The day will also be enriched by the presence of the Florentine, but now Moncalierese by adoption, Indro Neri , one of the leading tripe experts in the world, who will present "The Geography of Tripe" . From 9pm to midnight, there is also plenty of live music.

On October 1st the Fair reaches its peak with over 25 quintals of Savoyard Tripe that will boil in the large pot from the early hours of dawn until 12, when the tasting ceremony will be held with the Tripe Brotherhood and civil institutions which will be followed by the distribution of cooked tripe to the public. During the last edition, more than 3000 portions were served to visitors - with a large presence of young people - gathered in the classic slipper at the bottom of the now empty pot.

All proceeds from Trippa del Pentolone are also donated to the Piedmont Food Bank for meals to be given to people in need. The Italian Red Cross Committee of Moncalieri will be present for the first aid service and with its stand will hold a series of demonstrations, it will also be possible to taste the special panettone and olives of "Il Meglio del Meridione" of Moncalieri without obligation to purchase , while Pro Loco Moncalieri participates with a stand dedicated to the initiatives of the Associations and the City of Moncalieri. The Friends of the Ciapinabò Festival of Carignano (TO) will also have a stand for a preview of the thirtieth edition of their Festival and on the occasion of the Fair the presenter Elia Tarantino will be present with the cameras of the television program Mosaico .

STREET FOOD & OTTOBEER FEST | from 6 to 8 October

The following weekend, from 6 to 8 October , will be the turn of the first edition of Street Food & Ottobeer Fest , a three-day event created by the Turin Wine Week together with Città del Gusto Torino – Gambero Rosso .

In the month in which the city of Moncalieri valorises its gastronomic excellences, Street Food & Ottobeer Fest aims to be a small window on the varied world of street food , among some of the realities awarded by Gambero Rosso , in its guide "Street food 2023. Stories recipes and places of Italian street food" , together with local excellences, such as Masters of Taste and quality artisans. The journey begins from Sicily, with the master Francesco Arena , the most awarded Messina baker ever and the excellence of Il Vecchio Carro , passing through the fish artisans, La Salumarina of Rimini, and the Emilian products of BStradi - Bottega Contemporanea . But also a leap into international cuisine with the churros of Churritos Milano , the fusion cuisine of Rafiky , to return to the territory with the products of the Ram cooperative of Moncalieri with Egregio , the ice cream of Mara dei Boschi , the specialties of QR Torino and many others .

October is the month that also celebrates the love of beer in the world, and Piedmont is certainly one of the cradles of the Italian brewing movement. Over the three days, the public will therefore have 16 taps at their disposal through which to get to know high quality beers every day: not only artisan Piedmont, but also international crafty brands .

On the occasion of Street Food & Ottobeer Fest, music will once again be the protagonist: on Friday with the evening most loved by the people of Turin, Avanzi di Balera , organized by the FEA association , on Saturday with a non-stop dedicated to the legendary 80s soundtracked by the DJs of Klug , among the founding realities of OFF TOPIC in Turin and also manouche music on Sundays, with activities for children and families
