Fausto Maculan crowned "Father of Wine" at Golosaria 2025

Fausto Maculan received the recognition as “Father of Wine” from Paolo Massobrio and Marco Gatti , curators of the food and wine guide IlGolosario , during the Presentation on Saturday, November 1st in Milan. After a several-year hiatus, journalists and food critics have decided to reintroduce the Award at the 2025 edition of Golosaria , the event celebrating the best of Italian food and wine, this year with the theme "The Taste of Innovation." "To Fausto Maculan for his insights and dedication to the world of wine and for being a father capable of bringing a gift, particularly the sweetness of wine, to contemporary life," was the reasoning behind the choice, shared with the audience by Massobrio and Gatti. The producer from Breganze (Vicenza), in particular, was recognized for his great work in promoting sweet wines , among the most representative labels of the denomination and the company in Italy and around the world, first and foremost Torcolato, made from the native Vespaiola grape. "It's an honor to receive an award of this caliber, one that has been given before me to great figures in the world of winemaking," said Fausto Maculan . "I welcome it as recognition of our ability to produce high-quality sweet wines, shared, narrated, and promoted with skill and creativity." In this regard, since 2025, the Maculan winery has returned to offering the Maculan Award , a food and wine competition for professionals and enthusiasts that recognizes the best pairing of sweet wine with an original savory recipe, the subject of the winemaker's speech in the opening talk at Golosaria, entitled "The Taste of Contemporaneity." Fausto Maculan thus joins the "Fathers of Wine" after Costantino Charrère, winner of the first edition in 2006, followed by Lino Maga, Gianfranco Soldera, Antonio Mastroberardino, Bartolo Mascarello, Giuseppe Quintarelli, Joško Gravner, Giobatta Mandino Cane, Edoardo Valentini, Nicodemo Librandi, Franco and Giuseppe Argiolas and Marco de Bartoli.
