Fattoria La Maliosa will open its doors on Saturday 14 November 2026 to host The Porto Protocol Community Day , the first event of the global network committed to combating climate change in the world of wine, which brings together producers, researchers and professionals for a day of discussion and exchange of opinions.
The meeting will focus on the practical solutions presented in the international report "Saving Every Drop in Wine," along with the field experience of the Tuscan winery founded by Antonella Manuli , which has become a benchmark for sustainable wine production. Protecting vineyards from extreme weather events requires truly strategic management of water resources : it's not simply a matter of reducing consumption, but of allowing the soil to absorb, retain, and maximize every single drop of rain, minimizing erosion. Since the agricultural sector uses a significant portion of global water reserves, this topic is particularly timely for the scientific community and the entire industry.
"We are delighted to host the first Italian and global edition of The Porto Protocol's Community Day, a network and knowledge-sharing platform created to address climate change and promote sustainability across the entire wine supply chain," says Antonella Manuli , founder of La Maliosa and brand ambassador for The Porto Protocol in Italy. "It's an open network where producers, winemakers, scientists, universities, suppliers, and distributors share data, experiences, and concrete strategies to reduce environmental impact. Welcoming these figures is an opportunity to share the work we do every day, listen to diverse experiences, and together seek concrete solutions to protect water and soil. The answers cannot remain the property of individual companies. During Community Day, we want to compare our experience in the vineyard with other realities and research, to share practices and opinions."
The Porto Protocol chose Italy for the richness and diversity of its community, which brings together winemakers, service providers, universities, and certification bodies. This project was made possible by the dedication and determination of Antonella Manuli, who transformed her commitment to sustainability into concrete action.
The day's conference will open with Professor Stefano Poni of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Costanza Fregoni (Donne della Vite). The debate will bring together the academic world and top-quality producers, with contributions from Franco Meggio (University of Padua), Lucrezia Lamastra (Catholic University), Michele Manelli (Salcheto), Klára Benová (Emidio Pepe), and Marco Broggi (Perleuve).
The afternoon program will continue with an exclusive masterclass dedicated to the wines of the companies adhering to The Porto Protocol led by Cristina Mercuri MW , the first Italian woman to be proclaimed Master of Wine and one of the main international figures in the sector.
The event will close with a practical workshop entitled Measuring Biodiversity in the Vineyard , conducted in the field by Simone Mazzola ( 3Bee ) together with Antonella Manuli : an opportunity to measure the biodiversity of the vineyard and the surrounding landscape on the ground using new technologies and monitoring tools.
