Derthona Due.Zero is back on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 March 2023 , the third edition of the event organized by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colli Tortonesi to enhance and spread the knowledge of the white wine obtained from the Timorasso vine, now a symbol of the Renaissance of the Tortona Hills.
Once again this year the historic seat of the Orsi Museum in Tortona will host a large tasting counter for two days where it will be possible to preview the wines of the 2021 vintage , but at the same time also bottles with more years of aging which will show the extraordinary evolutionary potential of Timorasso , capable of giving wines of great balance, power, finesse and intensity.
Sunday 12 March will be dedicated to the public of enthusiasts who, from 10 to 18, will be able to talk with the producers to discover the distinctive characteristics of this great white wine. For admission, a ticket of €20.00 is required, reduced to €18.00 for those who buy it ( here ) in presale. On the other hand, Monday 13 March , always at the same time, will be the day reserved for sector operators and sommelier associations , who will be able to access by purchasing the ticket at the price of € 10.00 at the box office and € 8.00 in presale ( here ), and to the press , who can request accreditation via this link .
Also this year, both days will host in-depth masterclasses conducted by professionals in the sector. For these particular tastings, which will allow you to study the peculiarities of the territory and the different declinations of Timorasso, there is an entrance ticket of €25.00.
Timorasso is one of the most fascinating white grape varieties in Italy, a variety that has found its home on the Tortona hills since the Middle Ages, the crossroads of four regions such as Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. An area characterized by a very varied landscape, full of impervious and steep ups and downs, with hills that descend along six valleys – Ossona, Grue, Curone, Scrivia, Borbera, Spinti – with clayey, compact soils made up of blue marl, the same present along the ridge that from Barolo reaches Tuscany.
"Territory and longevity will be the central themes of this edition of Derthona Due.Zero to discover a wine strongly linked to its production area, which is increasingly attracting the interest of enthusiasts and experts". – comments Gian Paolo Repetto, president of the Consorzio Tutale Vini Colli Tortonesi. – " The credit goes to all the producers for this continuous growth, who have invested a lot in recent years to bring out the distinctive features of a wine that shows personality and character, especially with the passage of time. We've done a lot but there's still a lot is still to be done because we are convinced that Derthona can establish itself among the great white wines of Italy".
If we think that only in 2009 the area under vines in Timorasso within the denomination was only 25 hectares while today it has reached 275, we can speak of a real renaissance of Timorasso. An important progression made possible also and above all by the commitment and tenacity of a group of young local winemakers, starting with the first pioneers such as Walter Massa, Andrea Mutti and Paolo Poggio, who at the end of the 80s rediscovered the ancient tradition and undertook the road to recovery. The consortium's social structure has also grown hand in hand, made up of 85 members united by the desire to enhance what we can now define as the most important white grape variety in Piedmont in terms of dedicated area and quantity produced.
