  • 15/03/2023

Renewed office unanimously and outlined future lines of action: internationalisation, wine tourism and training

Clear ideas, cohesion and desire to make Custoza known throughout the world as a contemporary wine in line with new trends.

These are the elements that will characterize the next three years of the Custoza Wine Protection Consortium, which will be led by Roberta Bricolo (Cantina Gorgo) flanked by Marica Bonomo (Monte del Frà) and Luca Oliosi (Cantine di Verona) . A team that is cohesive and motivated and represents all the realities of the territory in a balanced way, from small producers to important cooperative realities. A harmony that is above all the result of the work carried out in recent years.

<< We have rediscovered ourselves increasingly united in the desire to increase the quality and perception of Custoza, also opening up to new international markets>> affirms the president Roberta Bricolo. << 2022 has been a very complex year but the whole denomination has spent its utmost efforts to increase knowledge of Custoza wine. We have carried out a broad and articulated promotional activity to give visibility to the denomination both on the domestic and foreign markets, also dedicating ourselves to enhancing the wine tourism sector and implementing communication tools.>>

The gaze is now turned to the future. Among the most important innovations introduced by the new BoD, the creation of three commissions : Sustainability and Agronomic Management , Youth and Disciplinary . The first will work to implement the use of production methods that favor water saving and resource optimisation; the Consortium will invest even more in a constant monitoring activity in the field, to give our producers punctual and precise agronomic information that will help them in the sustainable management of the vineyards; the second will involve the new generations of producers by stimulating them to enrich the consortium activities with new visions and different interpretations; the third will be engaged in the study of the potential of the territory and of the vines to seek the highest expression of Custoza.

< focusing on the increasingly trendy characteristics of freshness, contemporaneity and pleasantness, making it clear at the same time that Custoza is also capable of evolving into complex and long-lived versions>> he comments Bricolo. < We will continue to invest in agronomic and oenological research to understand how far the interpretation of our wine can go and, finally, we will develop a large internal and external training project, aimed at producers, hotel management schools and tourism high schools and to operators in the hospitality and catering sector.>>.

In the future programme, particular attention will in fact be given to wine tourism , already developed in the area, both by helping companies welcome guests with up-to-date and contemporary tools and methods, and by organizing events in the area that allow people to discover the Custoza lands and all its attractions.

The new Board of Directors of the Consortium: Roberta Bricolo (President), Marica Bonomo and Luca Oliosi (vice-presidents), directors Alessandro Bianchi, Paolo Campagnola, Luigi Caprara, Stefano Casali, Luca Degani, Giuliano Fasoli, Paolo Fiorini, Alberto Marchisio, Alessandro Pignatti , Franco Piona, Luca Sartori, Luigi Turco.

Custoza's performances in 2022

Today the denomination has 72 wineries, 110 bottling companies and 480 winegrowers; the claimed hectares are 1400, for a production of 11,000,000 bottles.

Despite the difficulties experienced in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine and the energy and raw material price increases, the commitment of all the producers has allowed the denomination to maintain its market shares and grow in the perception of the value of Custoza.

Thanks to this, there is no shortage of positive signals. According to data from the certification body, the 2022 bottled marks a recovery compared to the previous two years with a total quantity of 78161 hectoliters with 1000 hl compared to 2021.

Inventories at the end of the year, net of new production data, are also lower than the previous year, settling at 22,661 hectoliters: -4,202 hl compared to 2021.

Finally, in recent years there has been a constant increase in the claim of Custoza Superiore (2,572 hl in 2019, 3,017 in 2020, 6,649 in 2021 and 11,113 hl in 2022) as a propensity of the denomination to move towards an increasingly higher quality profile.
