Guided tastings, between Barbera and Nebbiolo

The new edition of Cocco Wine will take place on the first weekend of September, one of the most delicious and popular food and wine events in Piedmont which reaches its twenty-first edition.

The Go Wine association promotes and organizes the event with the Cocconato Riviera del Monferrato Consortium and in agreement with the Municipality of Cocconato.

Saturday 2 (17-24) and Sunday 3 (15-20) the ASSAY COUNTER

The cellars of Cocconato, the islands of wine

Cocconato will be transformed into a virtual wine route, a route that from Piazza Cavour will wind along Via Roma up to the College Courtyard, alternating wine tastings with typical local products.

An all-pedestrian historic centre, animated for the event: it will host the cellars of Cocconato, from other parts of Piedmont and some artisans of taste with their tasting proposals.

In particular, the Cocconato cellars will welcome all the participants, each managing an exhibition space and describing the vineyards and wines of this corner of Piedmont. Barbera d'Asti is the best wine

important and best known in the area; however, the production extends to other red wines from native grape varieties, with growing attention in favor of Nebbiolo and observing appreciated selections of white wines that find ideal conditions to express themselves on the soils of Cocconato.

THE WINE ISLANDS: Liguria and the Focus on Prosecco and the Glera vine

The Wine Islands represent a Coconut…Wine tradition.

They are designed for comparison with wines from other regions and enrich the offer for wine enthusiasts who have always appreciated this formula.

There are two themes of the Wine Islands of the 2022 edition: Liguria and a special Focus dedicated to the glera grape variety and Prosecco wine.

The selection of Ligurian wines is presented with expressions from different cellars, in a path that from the Colli di Luni to the east, on the border with Tuscany, will lead to the west of Rossese di Dolceacqua. Valuing the main native vines and the virtuous work of many small winemakers who have contributed over the years to affirming an original and local viticulture.

The focus dedicated to the glera vine aims to tell a well-known wine, Prosecco, through the main production areas, to develop a more careful knowledge. Starting from the large area of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, to continue with the other main denominations. Some reference wineries are among the protagonists of this selection.

THE NEBBIOLO VINE, between Albugnano and Cocconato

On Sunday 3 September, on the third day of the event, an interesting guided tasting will be held entirely dedicated to the Nebbiolo vine grown in this part of the Asti area.

An ancient vocation that refers above all to the Albugnano denomination, which has been present at the review for years with the selections of the cellars that are part of the Albugnano 549 association.

And with some labels linked to Cocconato cellars, which over the years have paid attention to the variety, with new interpretations, thus supporting the Barbera cultivation tradition.

In the courtyard of Cassa Fasoglio, at 5.00 pm, a tasting will thus be held which, starting from the characteristics of the vine, aims to analyze the soils and characteristics of the wines produced, in an interesting comparison.

The tasting is reserved for free to all participants in the Cocco…Wine event who will have to confirm the reservation by filling in the attached coupon.

Friday 1 September the preview evening:

The preview evening will feature the cellars of the Municipality of Cocconato, now united in the Consortium.

Two appointments to note in the diary:

at 18.30 there will be an in-depth guided tasting en primeur on the 2021 vintage of Barbera d'Asti Superiore di Cocconato, more information in the next newsletter (for those who wish to receive info and book, write to stampa.eventi@gowinet.it)

At 20.00 the " Coconut Salotto...Wine" will be staged: in this edition it will be hosted by the Cantina del Ponte in Piazza Cavour with the collaboration of Cascina Rosengana.

The Salotto represents a moment dedicated to the table with the flavors and wines of the Cocconato cellars. Each Cocconato winery will present a favorite wine in a special wine shop. The wines can be paired with dishes designed for the occasion by the two Cocconato restaurateurs.

The evening will take place in two shifts: 20.00 and 21.30.
