Cocchi and the Alta Langa DOCG
In Cocchi's tastings you can taste great wines of refinement, often real challenges to time, the result of a centuries-old savoir faire, of the respect of the method, of the irreplaceable value of history, of the search for excellence and of the deep respect for a unique and still to be discovered territory, that of the high lands of Langa.
Cocchi was among the promoters, since the end of the last century, of that “Gentlemen’s Pact” that contributed to making the denomination so appreciated in Piedmont: a pact that recognizes the winemaking families’ role as custodians of traditions and guardians of the territory. Cocchi continues to buy grapes from local winemakers, who thus remain owners of their lands, honoring that same pact after more than two decades.
The Alta Langa DOCG by Cocchi is recognizable by a style of perfect setting, elegant and at the same time vibrant, of great freshness, where the Pinot plays a leading role with long refinement on the yeasts and a minimum dosage of sugars. Like the Pinot, also the Chardonnay by Cocchi see only steel and glass and express the purity of the vine with a contemporary, rigorous and seductive imprint.
Cocchi was the first winery ever to offer an Alta Langa wine made from only Chardonnay grapes (Bianc 'd Bianc, first vintage 2000), the first to offer a rosé wine (Rösa, first vintage 2000) and, in 2019, even the first to launch an Alta Langa Grappa.
Giulio Bava, owner of the Cocchi company together with his family, comments: “Even today, Cocchi is proud of its full loyalty to the denomination, its perfect compliance with a particularly rigorous specification, which allows it to produce only vintage wines, that is, the expression of a single harvest that is reported on the label; a specification that requires no less than 30 months of refinement for this classic method, and Cocchi does even more, releasing cuvées that have rested on the lees for at least one more year, beyond the 30 months required”.
