Sunday 7 July , at 6.00 pm , appointment with the DiscoSalad organized by the Cities2030 Vicenza Food Lab of the European H2020 Cities2030 project. The event is open to the public and was born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Vicenza , the International Library "La Vigna" , the Porto Burci cultural center which will make its urban garden available and the fruit and vegetable market which will offer vegetables and fruit.
DiscoSalad is an initiative aimed at citizens, with an eye on the younger generations, aimed at spreading good food practices in terms of recovery and circularity , but also stimulating greater awareness of the impact that food waste has on daily life . Precisely using fruit and vegetables that people usually don't choose because they are "not perfect", each participant will prepare and enjoy their own salad while two deejays from Vicenza will take turns at the console with a selection of electronic music : DjUdzo and Leeza .
“I am enthusiastic about involving younger children in this initiative – explains the councilor for the environment Sara Baldinato – because we believe there is a need to raise their awareness of how important personal choices in the food sector are both for individual health and for of the planet. We are sure that the children will be able to grasp the meaning of this event and become ambassadors with their family members, but also with their peers. I thank the fruit and vegetable market because it allows us to prevent food that is still edible from becoming waste". " Collaboration between departments is important to bring the valuable initiatives we are implementing throughout the city - continues the councilor for youth policies Leonardo Nicolai – . Burci is a cultural youth space that is confirmed to be open and welcoming, a place that generates relationships and interactions. In this sense, thanks go to the Captaincy, the management team, and to the artistic direction of the Cosmos club who understood and supported the initiative". DiscoSalad is inspired by the DiscoSoup format: born eight years ago in Berlin as a "protest soup" to combat food waste, the format has spread in Italy also thanks to the youth network of Slow Food , a non-profit association that promotes food culture, taste education and protecting biodiversity and small-scale agricultural production. It also arrives in Vicenza on the idea of the Cities2030 Vicenza Food Lab , established as part of the European project Cities2030- Co-creating resIlient and susTaInable food systEms towardS FOOD2030 , of which the Municipality of Vicenza is a partner, together with the "La Vigna" International Library. Funded by the European Commission 's Horizon 2020 programme, the project aims to support European cities in developing healthier, more sustainable and resilient urban food systems.
Plastic plates, glasses or cutlery are banned from the event: i.e. participants will bring their own kitchen tools from home , such as cutting boards, knives, forks, bowls and everything needed to prepare and then enjoy dinner and possibly take away anything not consumed. .
The event is free for ARCI card holders. Those who do not have one can request it directly on site at a cost of 6 euros.
