CASTELLO DI RADDA PRESENTS ITS FIRST VERMOUTH

  • 02/07/2020

A GREAT CLASSIC OF THE ITALIAN TRADITION INTERPRETED IN A TUSCAN KEY

Castello di Radda is enriched with a new gem, Vermouth based on Rosé Toscana IGT wine from 100% Sangiovese grapes. An absolute novelty for the company, it represents an unusual variation for a Sangiovese and for the production area. The idea started from the desire to enhance the 2018 vintage, very interesting, with an interpretation outside the box that once again demonstrates the great plasticity and versatility of Sangiovese grapes .

The tradition of flavored wine in Tuscany has ancient roots. The first to talk about it was the physician and botanist Giovanni Cosimo Villifranchi who, in 1773, published the recipe for Wermuth in his work Oenologia Toscana.

Vermouth di Castello di Radda comes from the synergy with the experience of the master distillers of the Bordiga Distillery of Cuneo , heirs of the tradition of Pietro Bordiga who invented the recipe for Turin Vermouth in 1888. Obtained with the traditional method, to the Rosé wine are added wheat alcohol, water, refined sugar and 36 aromas among aromatic herbs, autochthonous spontaneous officinal and spices, all strictly natural. Orange, lemon and juniper berries, rich in essential oils, give Vermouth an unmistakable citrus fragrance, while medicinal plants - above all sage, rosemary, elderberry, lavender and juniper - harvested at hand, they give great aromaticity; and again the spices , such as pepper, vanilla, cloves and ginger, expertly dosed enrich the mixture.

The result is an antique pink product with cherry reflections , with a persistent, balanced and sapid taste in which the fruity and spicy prevail. Spices and herbs that reveal themselves on the first nose, accompanied by the undergrowth aromas of the hills of Radda in Chianti, together with the hints of strawberry and dog rose, typical of Sangiovese, which are combined with balsamic notes of fennel seeds, licorice and anise. Fresh and fruity notes of orange, lemon and pomegranate then emerge, to which harmoniously floral notes of elderberry, sweet vanilla Bourbon notes and mineral accents are mixed. The very slight hints of mint enhance its freshness.

Perfect on its own, with the addition of ice and an orange peel or with soda for an aperitif, it creates interesting contrasts with a salty aperitif and is an excellent companion for desserts.

The launch of this product is an opportunity to present the new brand of Castello di Radda, which will dress all the labels starting from 2021 and which represents a stylization of the village of Radda in Chianti inspired by an ancient medieval representation, a sign of the indissoluble sense of belonging of the company to its territory.
