A postponed harvest, of excellent quality and with a quantity decreased by 40%.
This is the analysis of the fine harvest for the Primitivo di Manduria Protection Consortium.
"The primitive vineyards in our area appeared vigorous and in excellent health. - explains the satisfied president Mauro di Maggio - The harvest was 12 days late due to a cold spring and a summer that was slow in arriving. However, from a phytosanitary point of view the grapes were immediately presented good and, to determine the right ripeness, our warm climate with north wind and the lack of rains took care of it. All this prevented the formation of downy mildew and other diseases in the vineyard " .
"The yield is about 35 - 40% less than the previous year - continues May - but the fruit is of excellent quality with a high concentration of sugars. Surely a harvest that will be remembered as one of the best. We started by giving space to the collection for the saplings that immediately presented a low load and then continued in the coastal areas and, finally, in the inland areas ".
"There are all the conditions to find excellent, full-bodied wines in the glasses with a typical bouquet of Primitivo di Manduria Dop. - concludes di Maggio - The work in the vineyard has been carried out regularly in recent months, compatibly with the restrictions and the new rules issued for the management of the Covid-19 emergency. I thank all our winegrowers for the commitment that this year was even more intense immediately after the lockdown. A work that guaranteed the usual care of the vineyards and quality final product. The credit goes above all to them ".
