  • 10/07/2023

The protagonists are wines from extreme viticulture, from the mountains or from the islands, even from outside Europe. Companies will be able to apply until 5 September on the event website

Registration is open for the 31st edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes , the only wine competition in the world specifically dedicated to wines resulting from extreme viticulture . The competition has the aim of promoting and safeguarding the production of small island or mountain wine-growing areas , on steep slopes or terraces, where mainly native vines are grown. Special tasting commissions, each made up of 3 wine technicians or oenologists and 2 expert tasters, will meet in the Aosta Valley to evaluate the wines in the competition on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 September 2023 . Interested producers will be able to register their wines by Tuesday 5 September 2023 on the website www.mondialvinsextremes.com/concorso/scrizioni. The peculiarity of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes is mainly due to the variety of references for tasting, mostly obtained from native vines , characterized by terroirs that give the wine precise organoleptic characteristics and which make this competition unique in the world wine scene. In the last edition, the participating wines were more than 800 , coming from 24 countries , of which non-European Armenia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, the State of Palestine and the USA. “We believe that participating in the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes represents an extraordinary opportunity for winemakers in the high mountains or overlooking the sea, who face demanding challenges every day in the cultivation of their vineyards, in geographical areas characterized by high altitudes, unpredictable climatic conditions and inaccessible terrains – declares Stefano Celi , President of CERVIM – Center for Research, Studies, Safeguarding, Coordination and Enhancement for Mountain Viticulture -. The high number of members, growing year after year, confirms the prestige of this authoritative recognition, which offers producers visibility on a global scale and the possibility of sharing their stories with enthusiasts from all over the world”. The Mondial des Vins Extrêmes is organized annually by CERVIM - Center for Research, Studies, Safeguarding, Coordination and Enhancement for Mountain Viticulture , in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta and AIS, the Italian Association Sommelier – Valle d'Aosta section. It is sponsored by the OIV – Organization Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin and authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests. It is also part of VINOFED, the federation that brings together the major international wine competitions.
