The Marche region is known especially for Verdicchio, both of Castelli di Jesi and of Matelica. Without doubt it is one of the most well known wines of our country, both for the extraordinary longevity of some wine products, andfor the famous amphora-shaped bottle that has conquered the world.
The high vine-growing zones are influenced by the neighboring regions, where Sangiovese in the North and Montepulciano in the South characterize most of the blends. An unexpected curiosity: to find in the province of Pesaro Urbino a Pinot Nero of character outside Alto Adige, arrived here two centuries ago, during the Napoleonic administration, and perfectly adapted to the local microclimate of Focara.
Of interest is also the area of Monte Conero, on whose slopes there are excellent expressions of Montepulciano and Sangiovese.
The history of viticulture in the Marche region begins before the Romans and is probably the eldest in Italy. In the medieval period the cultivation of the vine and wine production were coordinated by the monks in the monasteries that served as farms. As in the rest of Europe, in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries also the Marche region was invaded by parasitic diseases of the vine that led to a shutdown in the production, which resumed at the end of World War II thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of some farmers.

In the Marche region, the Verdicchio vine is subjected to a second fermentation ("presa di spuma"), producing an excellent Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Sparkling. Not to forget is Pecorino Sparkling, great product of the region.
In the Umbria and Marce regions you can find very good rosé wines of the following denominations: Colli Pesaresi, Colli del Trasimeno, Colli Perugini and, at the border with Lazio, Colli Altotiberini and Colli della Sabina. Ancella Marche Rosé is a Marche IGT.
In the Marche region, the Verdicchio grapes produce an excellent raisin wine in the Castelli di Jesi area (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Raisin).
