Italian White Wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano

Vernaccia di San Gimignano Description of the wine: It is a vine that even alone is capable of great exploits and, above all, to express a mineral-rich soil, with notes of flowers, white fruits and spices, including honey and saffron. A wine that can be fresh and lively, but at the same time complex, with a good longevity in some cases. The different types of this wine are: Vintage: easier and generally with aging in steel, cru: industrial selections often fermented in wood, and reserve: with aging in wood and ability to age in a surprising way. The Vintage version is much more complex and multifaceted if enjoyed a couple of years after the grape harvest, like other great Italian white wines of similar potential, such as Fiano, Soave and Verdicchio. Organoleptic characteristics: Its color is pale straw yellow tending to golden with aging. Its aroma is fine, penetrating, characteristic, fruity and floral, dry, fresh, full-bodied, with good persistence, harmonious, with a characteristic bitter aftertaste (bitter almond) . Historical-cultural infos and curiosities: This is the first DOCG recognized in Italy and one of the first three DOC in our history. This emphasizes its unique and local character that accompanies it since 1200, when the wine was already known and appreciated, as evidenced by a quote in the Divine Comedy. Expression and boast of a very powerful city in the past centuries, today it is discovering a new youth, after years in which the logic of the wine-gift, perfect as a travel memory, prevailed. It was unforgettable between the towers of the town, pleasant, flirty and mineral as enough. Today Vernaccia is at the height of its rebirth, with companies that have gradually abandoned the practice of adding international grapes, such as Chardonnay, to Vernaccia, in an attempt to make it more appealing.
