Italian wines Abruzzo

Abruzzo is a region in which denominations and grape varieties are very scarce: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, vinified from grapes of the same name, are the two most extensive DOC.

It is interesting to point out that this apparent simplicity is characterized by very different soils and wines that grow in strength and tannic structure moving from the sea towards the most mountainous internal area of the region. In addition to the already mentioned Montepulciano and Trebbiano, the most productive vines are Sangiovese, Passerina and Malvasia. In the Peligna Valley, Cerasuolo, thanks to the altitude and a fresh soil, has unique and characteristic scents. On the hills near the coast vines and olive trees conquer the territory and offer superb combinations with the typical local cuisine.

Pecorino, Cococciola and Passerina are local grapes that give wine fresh and light wines and are enjoying great popularity among young people.

The history of wine in this region began several centuries before the birth of Christ. Over the years, Greek and Latin appreciated and praised the wines produced in Abruzzo and the production was prosperous and generous to the end of the Roman Empire.

With the advent of the Middle Ages and the transition to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Abruzzo lost hundreds of men who moved from the countryside to the city and even abroad: the economy collapsed dramatically and did not recovered entirely until the end of the Second World War.

Italian White Wine Abruzzo

The Abruzzo region presents a very varied and articulated territory, surrounded by the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains. The coastal area is purely dedicated to the production of white wines, fresh and light: Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC, the undisputed king of this category, boasting ten...

Italian Red Wine Abruzzo

Although the production of wines in the region has decreased, the variety of the territory makes that moving from the sea towards the mountains red wines grow in strenght and tannic structure. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo stands out among the others for its intense organoleptic characteristics.
