Sauternes is a AOC designation of French white wines among the most famous in the world. To obtain high–quality Sauternes each ripe grape of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc must be caught by hand and wine must age at least 5 to 10 years. Therefore, it is an extremely complex process and explains why the Sauternes wines are so expensive.
