Pinot Gris, like Pinot Blanc, is a mutation of pinot noir and has been for many years one of the most consumed wines of Italian production. Increasingly popular in Italy, Pinot Gris is of French origin and, having spread in Germany, arrived in Trentino Alto Adige. Today it is mainly grown in Friuli. It can be either vinified in white, producing a straw yellow wine, fragrant and with a dry flavour or it can be vinified in copper thus assuming a bitter taste.
