The Piedmontese High Bubbles lead the "Premium Italian Sparkling Wines - Classic Method" ranking alone.

Two wine Alta Langa fact drive solo ranking: A vintage Brut Alta Langa 2016 Deltetto and Millesimato Extra Brut Alta Langa 2016 Marcalberto, both with 95 points.

The panel, made up of judges Andrea Briccarello , Michael Garner and Anthony Rose , analyzed classic method wines from Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino, Emilia Romagna, Puglia and Sicily .

The article reads: "The judges appreciated the quality and consistency of the classic method sparkling wines of Italy (...), the Piedmontese Alta Langa was defined by Michael Garner as a region to look at" .

Of the 95 wines tasted, only the two Alta Langa were rated "Outstanding" (scores between 95 and 97).

Forty-four wines - including eleven Alta Langa Docg - were classified as "Highly Recommended" (scores between 90 and 94 were obtained from Anna Ghione's La Reine Brut Alta Langa 2016, Ettore Germano's Extra Brut 2016, Riserva Extra Brut 2014 di Coppo , Cuvée 60 months Riserva Brut Alta Langa 2010 by Gancia , Alasia Riserva Brut Alta Langa 2010 by Il Cascinone , Extra Brut Alta Langa 2016 by Roberto Garbarino , Riserva Giulio I Extra Brut Alta Langa 2012 by Tosti 1820 , Brut Alta Langa 2016 by Vite Colte , Bianc 'd Bianc Brut Alta Langa 2015 by Giulio Cocchi , Zero Riserva Pas Dosé Alta Langa 2013 by Enrico Serafino , Cuvée Leonora Brut Alta Langa 2014 by Cascina Bretta Rossa ).

Forty-seven wines - of which four Alta Langa Docg - achieved the "Recommended" result (scores between 86 and 89 for Enrico Cerutti Brut Alta Langa 2016 of Cascina Cerutti , Brut Alta Langa 2014 of Matteo Giribaldi , Tenute Rade Extra Brut Alta Langa 2014 of Poderi Cusmano , Banfi Cuvée Aurora Extra Brut Alta Langa 2015).

The presence of the Alta Langa Docg wines in the ranking is clearly above average, with 13 wines out of 18 among those that have received 90 or more points.

Giulio Bava , president of the Alta Langa Consortium comments: "We welcome the result of the Decanter tasting with great interest: our Consortium is working for quality and these signs confirm the constant growth of the denomination. Next to the numbers - hectares of vineyards, producers, references, bottles produced altogether - authoritativeness and notoriety grow ".

THE NUMBERS OF ALTA LANGA DOCG:

  • 125 members (90 vigneron and 35 sparkling wine houses)
  • 314 hectares of vineyards (145 in the province of Cuneo, 142 in the province of Asti, 27 in the province of Alessandria) not all of which are still in production -> they will become 350 in 2021.
  • The Alta Langa vineyard is cultivated for 2/3 Pinot noir and 1/3 Chardonnay
  • 2,500,000 kg of grapes produced from the 2019 vintage
  • 2,000,000 bottles produced from the 2019 vintage
