The historic winery, famous for its patronage, saw Michael Sailstorfer win the Artisti per Frescobaldi 2014 Award. The Berliner artist has earned the podium with the work Akt 1–5, 2014, chosen by the jury of exception.

The winner of the ARTISTI PER FRESCOBALDI 2014 Award

The work of the Berliner artist Michael Sailstorfer is a tribute to Italy and to Frescobaldi. The design is made with a bottle of wine, not used for drinking but to draw. His work, therefore, is a parody of the Italian "sentiment" for art and life.

The participating works

The announcement was made in front of an audience of journalists and representatives of the German and Italian world at the Schinkel Pavillon, on the occasion of the opening of the works of the participants in the Artisti per Frescobaldi Award.

This year, Michael Sailstorfer, Jorinde Voigt and Yuri Ancarani have been called to create a work inspired by the Nipozzano Castle, the historic estate of the Frescobaldi family in the Province of Florence.

Frescobaldi and the patronage for the future

The award is linked to the tradition of patronage of the Frescobaldi family, that has been pursuing for years a cultural project that links wine to art.

«In a complex time like the present – Tiziana Frescobaldi, director of the initiative, said – I thought it was important to share the story of our family, in the past very close to art and artists, in order to seize the future, which seems very uncertain, through the eyes of artists toward us, contemporary people. I thank very much Yuri Ancarani, Michael Sailstorfer and Jorinde Voigt for having accepted the invitation and taken part in the Award. I thank the jury for its expert opinion that has awarded the victory to Michael Sailstorfer: I congratulate him for the work that offers many insights and pays homage to the Italian tradition».

Artisti per Frescobaldi, to reaffirm its support to contemporary art of the new generations, will provide a contribution to the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien (www.bethanien.de), an important cultural center in Berlin dedicated to programs of training, exchange and residence for young artists. The support of Artisti per Frescobaldi will materialize in 2015 in a residence for a young Italian artist chosen jointly.

At the end of the exhibition the works will be carried to Italy: firstly, they will be exhibited at the Stelline Foundation in Milan (15th to 17th January 2015), and finally they will come to Florence to enrich the collection of the family.
