Recioto di Soave "Il Sigillo": a wine for OscarRecioto di Soave DOCG Il Sigillo 2009, signed by Cantina di Monteforte, was the only wine from the Veneto region to win the Oscar of Douja d'Or in 2013, the highest award at the prestigious national wine competition Douja D'Or organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Asti and now in its forty-first edition.
The results were announced during the official presentation that took place a few days ago and saw, among others, the participation of Giorgio Calabrese, national president of Onav.
The committees, which consisted of 250 ONAV tasters, examined nearly 1,000 samples of DOC and DOCG wines offered by 367 wineries from all over Italy. Of the submitted samples, 509 resulted to be winners after a severe and strict selection.
Recioto di Soave DOCG Il Sigillo belongs to the line "Cantina di Monteforte," the top of the company line, created exclusively for restaurants of quality.
"It is a result that gives us great satisfaction - Gaetano Tobin, general manager of Cantina di Monteforte, states - since this recognition goes to reward excellence in excellence. Indeed, Recioto belongs to our oldest wine-making tradition that, however, is not always easy to understand and today, following the change in eating habits, the moments when you can taste it are becoming increasingly rare".
Recioto di Soave Il Sigillo comes from Garganega grapes, vinified in single-variety and grown exclusively in the Soave Classico area. The most healthy and ripe grapes, harvested by hand, are left to "wither" until January. After pressing, the must is fermented and matured in barriques for about 12 months. The wine at this point is bottled and aged in bottle for further 12 months. At the sight it has a bright golden yellow color, at the nose it has hints of apricot and vanilla, while in the mouth it is soft and enveloping, with hints of bitter almond in closing.
Recioto di Soave Docg Il Sigillo is an ideal wine for dessert, particularly in combination with dry pastry. It is an excellent companion to be enjoyed with medium-mature cheeses, paired with honey and mustard.
