In addition to Prosecco DOCG of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, also Prosecco DOC will be protected in the Chinese market: an important breakthrough achieved by the Italian Government in the negotiations for the protection of our geographical indications in China.
The work is of the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture. Together with the Prosecco Superiore DOCG of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, which was already protected, now also Prosecco Doc will enjoy the protection.
There is a great satisfaction for the important result obtained by the Italian Government in the negotiations for the Protection of European Geographical Indications in the People’s Republic of China.
«This sort of progressive protection for the two geographical indications of Prosecco wine – Giorgio Mercuri, president of the Alliance of Food and Agriculture Cooperatives, stated – will help to deter counterfeiters of both products.
The negotiations for the agreement between the European Commission and the Chinese government, however, has come at the 10th round of negotiations and the draft with the characteristics of the protections provided is now well defined».
The support to another excellence of ours in the Chinese market, where there are countless cases of counterfeiting and unfair competition, is a positive sign of a renewed government action in defense of the Italian production, so much appreciated and imitated. Positive is the collaboration of government bodies and producers.
