The difficult situation resulting from the pandemic did not stop the work of the Mostra Valle di Cembra Committee, which again this year managed to realize what is now an unmissable appointment for the wine world.

60 labels , of which 40 from Trentino, 11 from Alto Adige, one from Valle d'Aosta and 8 from Germany, with 8 new entries compared to the last editions , will compete again this year at the Müller Thurgau International Wine Competition , the important milestone of 18 years .

The tasting panel , entrusted to 18 technicians including sector journalists, sommeliers from the various reference associations and winemakers - divided into three tasting commissions that will carry out blind tastings in which the wine as a whole will be analyzed taking into consideration sight, smell, taste and taste-smell - is scheduled for Friday 2 July , at 8.30, in Cembra. Each wine will be tasted by two different commissions. From the judgments expressed, after eliminating the highest and the lowest, you will get the average that will decide the final grade for each product.

The labels that have obtained a score between 80 and 84.99 will therefore be able to aspire to the Silver Medal, those between 85 and 89.99 to the Gold Medal and those above 90 to the Grand Gold Medal, with the limit that awarded wines cannot exceed 30% of the total number of participants.

The announcement of the winners will be made on Friday 30 July , starting at 8.30 pm, during the XXXIV Müller Thurgau Review: Mountain Wine , organized with the support of Trentino Marketing and the coordination of the Trentino Wine and Flavors Road in the context of the promotion of provincial wine events called #trentinowinefest .

Presenting the award ceremony in a new, dynamic and engaging way, the well-known television face and soul of Decanter, Federico Quaranta , who will stimulate even more the comparison between producers and the public, the real goal of the competition. Afterwards, the conductor will be the protagonist of a “ taste & talk show ”: an informal chat to learn more about Müller Thurgau and its many facets, including anecdotes and curiosities. For both meetings, which will take place in the new Fuori di Taste space, it will be possible to register through the event website.

" It is a real satisfaction - declares Renzo Folgheraiter, President of the Mostra Valle di Cembra Committee - to have once again reached such an important number of participating wines that, moreover, it could have been even higher: many wineries, in fact, given the situation, they have preferred to postpone bottling or are waiting for the best ripening, aware of the importance of competition. As you can imagine - he continues - it was also a race against time, which obviously did not facilitate contact with new realities beyond national borders. The restrictions and the general uncertainty forced us to wait until the beginning of June to communicate the dates of the panel and the registration procedures for which this important result, usually the result of months of work, was achieved in less than 30 days . A further sign, I think I can say, of how much the event and the competition are now strongly accredited to the producing cellars and of how what we are proposing is now an unmissable event in the wine world ".

Also this year it is interesting to note that the 42 labels relating to the last wine year are flanked by 16 from 2019 , one from 2018 and even one from 2013 , confirming what emerged in the last years of the competition, namely that this type of wine, in the most suitable areas, may be able to express an interesting aging potential . We'll see if the judges agree.
