The CDAs of the three Emilian consortia unanimously gave a favorable opinion on the merger.

A first, fundamental and decisive step along the path that will lead to the birth of a single large Consortium, between Modena and Reggio Emilia, able to represent and enhance the many denominations of origin of one of the most popular and famous Italian wines in the world: the Lambrusco. Thursday 25 June the Boards of Directors of the " Consortium for the Protection of Lambrusco di Modena ", of the " Consortium for the Protection and Promotion of the DOP Reggiano and Colli di Scandiano and Canossa Wines " and of the " Consortium for the Protection of Reno DOC Wines ", unanimously expressed an opinion in favor of the merger by incorporation, starting from next year, to ensure that a single large consortium entity is born: the Consorzio Tutela Lambrusco.

" Lambrusco is undoubtedly, in numbers, one of the image wines of Italy . It is a great universe represented by different vines, territories and colors. This diversity, which distinguishes us and represents us, we must also transform it into a great wealth for all producers which contribute to making it alive every day "comments Giacomo Savorini , director of the Consortia that today protect Lambrusco wine. "I think that this first step towards a single consortium for the protection of Lambrusco with Denomination of Controlled Origin allows us to finally reach the goal of being able to address, in the eyes of the final consumer, in a cohesive and uniform way, enhancing even better the individual riches of the different denominations ".

The next step will see the individual producers of the Consortia gather in as many Assemblies in order to express their opinion. "This is not an operation that intends to pursue cost savings" underlines Claudio Biondi , president of the Consortium for the Protection of Lambrusco di Modena. "The merger by incorporation takes place between subjects that for some years have already shared, sharing, all the respective administrative, technical and managerial services. Now it is a question, instead, of taking a further step forward , to share other factors, starting from communication strategies and international promotion projects ".

" We want to go beyond the individual territorial parochialisms that have marked the history of the past " adds Davide Frascari , president of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Reggiano and Colli di Scandiano and Canossa wines. "Now they have to be put aside to leave room and a union of intent that will allow all the denominations of Lambrusco to benefit greatly".

The future new Consortium for Lambrusco Protection will represent about 1.3 million quintals of grapes, for the vast majority of Lambrusco, even if it will include other vines. If on the one hand the absolute decision-making independence of the individual denominations represented by the new Consortium will remain, on the other there will be a close collaboration with the Consortium for the protection of Emilia, an inter-professional association that protects and enhances the PGI "Emilia" or "Emilia" .

"The many territories of Lambrusco and the various links that make up this complex chain will be able to share many promotional activities through this new Consortium that will allow us to enhance our denominations both in Italy and in the world" concludes Ivan Bortot , President of the Wine Protection Consortium of the Reno DOC. " It is an operation that looks to the future, when we will all speak the only language of Lambrusco ".

All affiliates now have two months to question the related consortia about the merger by incorporation and in September they will be convened within a sovereign plenary assembly which will have to definitively vote on the entire operation.
