In Florence, Gallo Nero celebrated its 90th birthday with the Masters of Wine!

The Institute of Masters of Wine has met with the producers of Chianti Classico Gallo Nero on the occasion of the ninety years of the Consortium

On May 14th 1924, thirty–three producers gathered in Radda in Chianti to defend Chianti and its uniqueness, in the Podestà Palace they gave birth to the "Consortium for the defense of the typical wine of Chianti and its brand of origin", which has become the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium. These were the thirty–three manufacturers who chose as a historic symbol the emblem of the Black Rooster (Gallo Nero).

«It is necessary and urgent to establish the Consortium for the protection of the designation and this is the reason why we are gathered here today. It must be an efficient organization, able to achieve this important program as soon as possible, but also to provide technical support to vine–growers associated, to help them to produce wines of higher quality, marketing them and presenting them with a special brand on the market, able to clearly distinguish them from others which, without having the right, are bearing the name of Chianti».

After ninety years of life, the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium today, with 560 member companies, is representing almost the totality of the producers of Gallo Nero. The Consortium is confirmed, today, as one of the leading representatives of the national and Community institutions in the wine sector. Its internal organization provides for facilities dedicated to fulfill its mission, with the purpose of safeguarding the designation and the services for members and of the enhancement, entrusted to the marketing and communications office.

Ninety years after the Chianti Classico producers have come together at the Corsini Palace to present Chianti Classico Great Selection, the highest expression of the production of this part of Tuscany particularly suited for the production of quality wine, to an audience of exception: the Masters of Wine, the highest authorities of wine in the world, in Florence for the Eighth Symposium of the Institute.

«I am glad to celebrate under my presidency such an important birthday for our Consortium. It is an event not to be missed and of absolute importance for Gallo Nero – Sergio Zingarelli, President of the Consortium, says – which is a must to attend with our evening dress: Chianti Classico Great Selection. For this reason we owe a special thanks to the Marquese Piero Antinori for giving us the opportunity of this parterre de rois in which to present our excellences».
