The number of hectoliters bottled grew by 19% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. We are also looking with confidence at the recovery of exports and tourism during the summer season.

There is excitement on the slopes of Etna and we look to the near future with renewed confidence and optimism. The data of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Etna DOC relating to bottling in the first half of 2021 recorded, in fact, a marked increase compared to the same period of 2020 and, above all, are back in line with the years prior to the start of the pandemic.

Looking at the numbers in detail, in the first half of 2021 the hectoliters bottled in Etna DOC amounted to 18,693, 19% compared to the same period last year. A figure substantially identical to that of the first half of 2019, an already very positive year that eventually led to significant growth.

" These are very encouraging signs, which certify an unequivocal restart on the part of the Etna wine " comments Antonio Benanti, president of the Consorzio di Tutela Etna DOC . " The almost total reopening of the Horeca channel, which represents the main point of reference for Etna Doc wines, has allowed us to resume bottling at full speed all the types of our appellation. which for Etna DOC represents on average 60%, in particular towards countries such as the USA is giving very positive signals ".

A restart that confirms the liveliness and interest that for years has surrounded the wines of the Etna area and that even the pandemic, despite the great difficulties that the local companies have had to face, has never contracted in a worrying way. " In 2020 there were 4 million bottles of Etna DOC, with a decrease of only 8% " explains Maurizio Lunetta , director of the Consorzio Tutela Etna DOC. " Trust in Etna wine has therefore never been lacking: last year, in fact, both the number of winegrowers increased to 383, and that of bottlers, which reached 144 units ".

Finally, the recovery of tourism is another factor towards which we look with great confidence for the definitive restart of the sector. " Sicily, according to the most recent estimates, should record a double-digit increase in visitors in 2021 and this could act as a further driving force for the production of our companies - concludes the president Antonio Benanti -. The Etnean wineries are increasingly equipped to offer excellent food and wine experiences for wine tourists and Etna is one of the increasingly popular destinations for all those who decide to spend a holiday and relaxation on our island ".
