Among the many wine excellences of the region, the DOC Merlara stands out for the originality of its grape varieties and for its enhancement projects

A series of initiatives that aim to raise awareness of the wines and the extraordinary historical and artistic heritage that characterize this not very known area in the heart of the Veneto region is starting. The Consortium for the Protection of Merlara Wines, with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Padua, will present to the press and Italian and foreign operators, in a series of initiatives, the offer of not only food and wine but also of tourist accommodation.

Thanks to the great job of wine promotion in the most prestigious fairs in the sector, from Vinitaly to Prowine in Düsseldorf,to the recent Vinexpo in Bordeaux, the Merlara DOC producer's association will then know directly to operators and journalists the cultural identity of this area by emphasizing its elements of originality.

The rich program of events, which began on Sunday, 1st September, saw first of all a tour of the medieval walls of Montgnana with DOP and DOC "breakfast" at the Prosciuttificio Brianza with Berico Euganeo ham and wines of the denomination proposed by the Winery Ponte al Masero.

Followingly, a "medieval" break in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II for the beginning of the celebrations of the "Palio of the 10 municipalities", a challenge which date back to 1366, among ten horses and ten knights of the towns of Montagnana. Then, an authentic 14th Century lunch with wines of Merlara Doc (Malvasia, Red Merlara, Marzemino and Moscato) at the impressive castle of Bevilacqua. After a guided tour of the sophisticated halls of the castle and a tasting of local wines, to operators and journalists certificates of participation in the tour to the discovery of the flavours and the historical heritage of the area were delivered. All this waiting for further guided visits and technical meetings that will characterize the entire month of September. September is the richest month in terms of appeal not only because it is possible to participate in the harvest, which is the most important and evocative event of the season, but also because it coincides with a series of events ranging from the famous Palio di Montagnana up to the manifestations of Merlara, Urbana and Terrazzo.

But in the programs of DOC Merlara there is not only Italy, but also many foreign countries, as much as this dynamic company is coordinating on 13th September another trade mission with some of the most qualified European buyers in the sector as protagonists, who are sided also by tour operators seeking of new routes and new accommodation facilities in a strategic area between Venice, Terme Euganee and Verona.

An area that has everything to tell the uniqueness and the richness of the Veneto region, to make real discoveries also from the oenological point of view, such as the Malvasia wine and Marzemino DOC, in the heart of the Veneto region. A white and a red wine, different by nature and tradition compared to any other Veneto wine, characterized by aromas and flavours that not only recall the identity of the grape, but that tell with their taste the strength of the soil and the passion of producers. A challenge without fear that the DOC Merlara will launch at the appointment dedicated to Veneto wines on 26th September in Milan, at the Michelangelo Hotel and organized by Go Wine, addressed to traders and the world of communications.
