Moscato di Scanzo

It is a black berry grape, a real rarity for a Muscat, and the area of production is limited to the province of Bergamo, while the area of election is only Scanzorosciate. Celso Lotteri in 1852 claimed that the Romans, in the first century BC, founded their own colony in the territory of Villa, Scanzo and Rosciate, and immediately realized the existence of a perfect grape to obtain a very appreciated muscatel wine. Almost certainly the term muscatel can be traced back to medieval times (in 1372 the bishop and feudal lord of Tribulina di Scanzo, in a letter, writes about the amount of Moscadello that two of the colonists had to provide), but does not explain the distant origins of this grape. The Scanzo Muscat is harvested in October and left to dry on racks, in order to obtain out of it sweet wine, that already from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was much appreciated in the European courts.
