Grillo

Also known by the synonym Riddu, this grape was probably imported from Puglia in Sicily at the end of 1800 (as evidenced in his Rizzo's work of 1951), when it was necessary to think about the post-phylloxera reconstruction and vines that had proved to be particularly resistant were planted. Its area of greatest spread is the province of Trapani, where it contributes to the formation of Marsala. It is also present in the territory of Agrigento, Palermo and Siracusa. It is a vigorous plant, with medium to large, five-lobed, pentagon-shaped leaves, and conical, usually winged, medium sparse bunches, medium-large, spherical, thick-skinned and slightly waxy grapes.
