Present in the region since ancient times, this vine has uncertain origins. I has often been confused with Bonarda tout court. Is currently grown in the area of Eastern Canavese, in the hills of Biella, Upper Vercelli, in the province of Novara and in the territory of Tortona, in addition to a limited diffusion in the Astigiano and Torinese areas. This grape in Piedmont is rarely vinified in single-variety and is most often blended with other local varieties such as Croatina, Vespolina and Barbera.
