It is one of the oldest white grapes of Piedmont. It was known by the name of Renesio or Renexi since the 15th century in the hills of Roero, which seem to be its origins, although the first written records date back to the second half of the nineteenth century. For centuries it was vinified into sweet wines, while its use for dry wines dates back only to the last decades. The production area is in the province of Cuneo, in the Roero area, a hilly region on the left side of the Tanaro river.
