“Blood Red Wine”: Mononoke Protest at Vinum

During the last weekend of Vinum in Alba , the Mononoke collective protested against the exploitation of agricultural labor. With a banner reading “Alba offers blood red wine” and interventions on the megaphone, they remembered Issa Loum and Mamadou Diallo, young migrants who tragically died last December. The activists blame the agricultural system, subcontracting and the lack of adequate housing policies.

Abano Wine Days: 3 days of wine, food and relaxation

From May 9th to 11th in Abano Terme , 18 wineries of the Euganean Hills and 5 restaurants will enliven the urban thermal park with tastings, typical dishes and convivial moments for the whole family. Opening hours: Friday and Saturday 17–22 | Sunday 11–22 With interactive map to orient yourself among the stations.

Cannonau protagonist at the Paestum Wine Festival

Cannonau shone in the “Cannonau Likeness International” masterclass at the Paestum Wine Festival. Ten Sardinian labels represented the island, showing the stylistic variety of this grape variety. Mariano Murru (Assoenologi): “Cannonau knows how to excite, debunking stereotypes.”

Urban vineyard at the Polytechnic University of Turin: the “Campus Grapes” project begins

In June, the world's first hi-tech urban vineyard will be born in the heart of the Polytechnic University of Turin: over 750 potted vines on 1,000 square meters for a sustainability and research laboratory. The project is by the startup Citiculture , also financed by crowdfunding.

Prosecco “light”: the experimentation begins

The DOC Prosecco Consortium and the University of Padua are testing an 8° alcohol version. A “low alcohol” wine designed to intercept health trends, while maintaining its taste identity.

“A stroll in the vineyard” at the Mercato Centrale in Florence

On Saturday 10 May (17–22) the Vinario 4 event debuts in Florence with itinerant tastings, meetings with producers and glasses told through experience. The initiative is already a success in Rome.

Friday in the Cellar at Tenuta Genevrina (Monferrato)

Every Friday evening, free tastings without a fixed route. Focus on freedom of choice and sustainability in a UNESCO heritage area.

Tasting at the “L'antica fornace di Cedri” Winery (Peccioli)

Evening with organic wine and EVO oil with aperitif. Wines from native vines and breathtaking landscapes in the Valdera. Vegetarian and vegan options available.

“L’isola in tavola” returns to Elba

May 8th at the restaurant La Cantina del Mare (Campo nell'Elba): dinner based on local fish with guided tasting of three wines from the Cecilia company. A journey through the flavors of Elba.

Open Cellars 2025 – May 24th and 25th

National event with over 600 participating wineries

Trekking, picnics, tastings, live music and family activities are on the program. Collaboration with Wine in Moderation is renewed to promote conscious consumption.

Highlights:

  • Abruzzo : 50 participating wineries, with Teramo at the forefront.
  • Valpolicella : trekking and Amarone with the Vogadori brothers. Cost 35€, limited places.
  • Fattoria Casalbosco (Tuscany) : tour, picnic, treasure hunt for children.
  • Saffirio (Langhe) : conscious wine tourism between tastings and stories of the territory.

Amarone in trouble: Masi closes with a loss

After 15 years of profit, Masi Agricola records a net loss of €1.1 million. Exports slow despite turnover holding up. President Boscaini cites “declining consumption and geopolitical criticalities”.

OIV: fewer bottles but growing value

The 2024 OIV report confirms: global vineyard area decreases (-0.6%) but the value of wine increases, with higher quality production. Italy bucks the trend: 0.8% of surfaces.

Coldiretti: “The new highway code penalizes wine”

Alta Langa DOCG is the Piedmontese Wine of the Year

Announced at the Nuvola Lavazza in Turin during “La Prima dell'Alta Langa”. With over 200 cuvées to taste, the Piedmontese sparkling wine will be an ambassador of Made in Piedmont throughout 2025.
