1. Wine and Duties: Coldiretti Raises the Alarm on the US Market

Coldiretti defines the US market as "irreplaceable" for Italian agri-food exports, which grew by 17% and reached 8 billion euros. President Ettore Prandini asks the government for 13% of the 25 billion announced for the sector, after Trump's temporary suspension of US duties. In the meantime, the aim is to reopen a transatlantic table. There are also concerns for the Chinese market, where one product out of two is counterfeit.

2. Vinitaly and the City returns to Sibari: culture and wine in synergy

From 18 to 20 July 2025, the archaeological parks of Crotone and Sibari will host the second Calabrian edition of “Vinitaly and the City”. The event, promoted by the Calabria Region and VeronaFiere, aims to enhance local wineries and the tourist appeal of the Sibaritide. An increasingly strategic cultural and commercial showcase.

3. Wine without Borders: 3rd International Edition in Calabria Concluded

Nine countries involved in the training course on wine promoted by the Italian Sommelier Foundation, within the Master of the Italian Culinary Institute of chef John Nocita. The course, in English, has trained new "wine lovers" from the USA, Australia, England, Germany and other countries.

4. Roberta Ceretto on the Board of Directors of the CRT Foundation

The producer of the “Monsignore” winery joins the board of the CRT Foundation. Active between the Langhe and Mondovì, Ceretto is also the promoter of an “urban vineyard” project and a symbol of female entrepreneurship in the world of wine.

5. Vinicoli 2025: natural wine among the alleys of Genoa

Seven stages, seven venues and a journey through the historic heart of Genoa: from 18 April, “Vinicoli” returns, an event dedicated to natural wine. Traveling tastings, an official glass and a lively atmosphere to discover the best of “natural” viticulture.

6. Cotarella will produce dealcoholized wine: an epochal turning point

Riccardo Cotarella, president of Assoenologi, announces his first dealcoholized wine to be released in October. A change of direction that follows the open line already undertaken by Angelo Gaja. “We reasoned with the heart, now we also do it with the stomach for the producers,” he declared.

7. Top wineries by turnover: the North-East leads the market

According to WineNews, 27 Italian wineries exceed 100 million euros. Of these, 14 exceed 200 million and many are located in the North-East (Veneto, Trentino, Friuli). The leading group is Cantine Riunite & CIV, with over 676 million. The protagonists are Prosecco and Pinot Grigio.

8. MAV Award 2025: Graci wins with the underground cellar on Etna

The recognition of wine architecture goes to the Cantina Ipogea Graci in Castiglione di Sicilia. The project combines archaic and contemporary elements in perfect harmony with the Etna landscape. Two special mentions also for landscape projects in Latina and Treviso.

9. Dolcetto delle Langhe under 20 euros: the best 11

Overshadowed by Nebbiolo, Dolcetto deserves to be rediscovered. An easy-drinking, fragrant and gastronomic wine, it proves to be perfect for the contemporary era. The 11 best under 20 euros have been selected: excellent quality/price ratio.

10. Mirabella bets on Pinot Bianco in Franciacorta

Cantina Mirabella has been carrying out an innovative project on Pinot Bianco for 40 years. A choice that goes against the grain and that today is proving to be a winning one also in terms of climate. The vine is confirmed as resistant and sustainable.

11. Vignamadre Di Carlo: chakra wines between tradition and bio-architecture

In Villa Caldari (CH), the Vignamadre company works on “energetic” wines inspired by the colors of the chakras. Winemaking in amphora, sustainability and organic tradition since 1830: an example of harmony between philosophy, nature and innovation.

12. Valle d'Itria Susumaniello 2022 by Paololeo: native red from Puglia

The latest addition to the Altura line, this Susumaniello IGP (350 m above sea level) stands out for its authenticity and connection to the territory. Native to the province of Brindisi, the vine has ancient origins and is now enjoying a major revival.

13. Trentodoc: turnover doubled in 10 years

Mountain bubbles are growing: 180 million euros in 2024 (100% in 10 years), 12.3 million bottles. Exports (15%) are booming, especially in the USA and Switzerland.

14. UIV: QR Codes are good, but doubts remain about health warnings

The National Council of the Italian Wine Union approves the EU labeling package, especially for digitalization via QR code. However, concerns remain about the introduction of mandatory health warnings, such as those already foreseen in Ireland.

15. 2024: World production and consumption at historic lows

According to the OIV, 2024 saw the lowest level of consumption (214 million hl) and production (226 million hl) since 1961. Causes: extreme weather, inflation, falling consumption in China and generational changes in habits.

16. Piwi Vines: Veneto dominates with 630 hectares

Vines resistant to the limelight. Veneto is the number 1 region with 94 producers and 173 Piwi labels. Alto Adige and Trentino follow. The market's curiosity for these innovative, sustainable and climate-change-adaptable wines is growing.

17. Barolo is the most expensive vineyard in the world

Over $2 million per hectare: Barolo surpasses Bordeaux and Napa Valley. This is revealed by Knight Frank's Wealth Report 2025. Prices are rising (5%) for Piedmont vineyards, which have always been synonymous with prestige.

18. The tricolour on the Docg and Doc bands for Made in Italy

The new bands with the Italian flag debut today. The QR code will guarantee traceability and authenticity, with a system developed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. A measure to combat counterfeiting without additional costs for producers.

19. Al Bano against duties: “I will convince Trump with a song”

Singer-winemaker Al Bano launches an ironic but firm appeal: “A glass of wine and a sandwich” to save Italian exports. But behind the joke, the concern for duties of up to 200% remains serious: a 14.5 billion euro sector at risk.

20. Wine 2024: a difficult year but not without positive signs

The OIV report “State of the World Vine & Wine Sector” describes a black year for global viticulture, but highlights encouraging signs for Italy: exports growing both in volume and value.
