News about Italian wines and oenology

The news has been divided into three thematic categories: Italian wineries , Italian wine and Italian oenology .

ITALIAN WINERIES

Excellence, territory and family identity

  • Ferrari Trento launches the “Archivio di Famiglia” , a project that celebrates the excellence of Trentodoc through two new lines: Edizioni Originali and Sboccature Recenti . Among the new products, the vertical versions of Ferrari Perlé and Riserva Lunelli disgorged in 2025.
  • In Neive , Cantina del Rondò carries on the Langhe tradition with family passion and a strong bond with the territory.
  • The Le Pignole winery , in the Berici Hills, renews Venetian viticulture with a young and passionate family management, focused on native and international vines.

Cultural vision and territorial recovery

  • The Fontezoppa Wineries combine the sea and the mountains in the Marche, between heroic viticulture and cultural identity, with native varieties such as Pecorino and Ribona.
  • In Seui , in the heart of Barbagia, the Cantina Podes project by Andrea Desogus was born: rediscovery and rebirth of the Sardinian winemaking tradition.
  • Expedia Group CEO Peter Kern is expanding his presence in Montalcino , acquiring the Lo Scalone estate after Il Palazzone and Albatreti , in the heart of Brunello.

Emergencies and curiosities

  • In Nocera Terinese , a large fire destroyed the former Odoardi winery, which is no longer operational but historically important for Calabria.
  • Among the Prosecco Hills , the anti-hail cannons become a tourist attraction, with explanatory signs for visitors, between science and folklore.

ITALIAN WINE

International markets and global challenges

  • Slowdown in exports to the USA : in April, Italian wine exports recorded a 7.5% drop in volume and 9.2% in value. The effect of duties hits the sector hard, highlighting imbalances in the markets and slowdowns in overall performance in non-EU countries.
  • Vietnam : new excise duties of up to 90% by 2031 on alcoholic beverages, including wine. A measure that penalizes the Asian market and worries producers.

Wine protection and policy

  • In the IX Senate Commission , the European “Wine Package” is being discussed. Senator De Carlo (FdI) announces the vote on the proposed resolution.
  • Coldiretti calls for more EU funds to support wine companies, appreciating the regulatory flexibility but underlining the need for resources.
  • Cia Piemonte calls for the General States of Wine , denouncing a growing crisis in the sector: falling consumption, climate change and distorted information.

Tourism and sustainability

  • On the occasion of the World Day of Sustainable Gastronomy , among the vineyards of Rome, the Prosecco hills and the agritourisms of Salento and Piedmont, Italy celebrates wine as a territorial, cultural and sustainable expression, also thanks to CarTes and the initiative “The Road to Sustainability”.

ITALIAN OENOLOGY

Training and research

  • In Alba , 35 years of Viticulture and Enology and 25 years of the three-year degree course are celebrated. A fundamental milestone for Italian enological education and the growth of a university center of excellence.

Italian excellences

  • Gambero Rosso awards the 9 best Pinot Bianco del Collio : among new wineries awarded the Tre Bicchieri and a White of the Year , Collio confirms its position as a stronghold of Italian whites.
  • Ferraris Agricola relaunches Ruchè , a Piedmontese grape variety that went from being a forgotten variety to an international DOCG, telling its story through a museum and new varietal experiments.

Wine and art, a profound dialogue

  • Wine is increasingly experienced as a work of art . Tasting becomes a shared experience: it is not just the aroma that counts, but the emotional involvement, between the creativity of the producer and the sensitivity of the consumer.

From the world

  • In Barcelona , Toni Falgueras, 80, recounts his visit to more than 2,000 wineries in 70 countries . His lesson? Excellent wine doesn’t have to be expensive .

Thanks for listening! The QUIDQUID press review is back tomorrow with the main news from the world of wine. Until next time and… cheers!
