News on Italian wine and oenology

informative and immersed in the world of wine and its nuances.

ITALIAN WINERIES

Fossa Mala Sells Cantina RR to Rauscedo. A turning point for the Friulian company Fossa Mala, which has sold the Cantina RR company to the Rauscedo cooperative. The October 22 agreement provides for the joint use of facilities and machinery, with the goal of strengthening growth and sustainability. "A shared vision," explains Edoardo Roncadin, "to innovate without distorting the local area."

Two sisters, two Trentodocs: Moncalisse is born. Julia and Karoline, heirs to a historic Trentino winemaking family, present their new winery in Civezzano: 12 hectares between the Cembra and Sugana Valleys. Circular architecture, porphyry walls, and Bronze Age symbols recall the spiritual roots of the place. An independent and visionary project that blends modernity and tradition.

From Glasgow to the Val di Comino: the rebirth of the Italian-Scottish winery. The Ciaccas, Luigi Tana and Sofia Di Ciacca, are bringing their family estate in Lazio back to life after a century of abandonment. Today, the winery produces wine from 25,000 vines of Maturano, a native grape variety. The story of a return, from Glasgow to their homeland.

Damilano Winery: Barolo looks to the future. The historic Piedmontese winery launches its new Riserva Cannubi 1752 – 2018 and introduces the next generation to the helm. Chiara Damilano and Alice Battistel bring fresh energy and an international vision to consolidate the Nebbiolo maison's leadership.

Two centuries in eight bottles: the Tenuta Amalia project. Cesena's winery tells its long history through a collection of eight wines, each linked to a character and a historical event. The labels, designed by Maria Gabriella Gasparri, form a single, sweeping narrative.

ITALIAN WINE AND OENOLOGY

Garda DOC wines: new regulations, lower alcohol and more balance. Changes to the Garda DOC regulations have been approved: new varietals, a lower alcohol content, and the debut of "Cremant." "A strategic step to remain competitive while respecting tradition," states Consortium President Paolo Fiorini.

Ferrari Trento crowned world champion of Blanc de Blancs . The Ferrari Brut Magnum wins the world title at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships . The Giulio Ferrari 2004 also receives the award for best “Library Vintage” label. The Lunelli group consolidates its position as the global leader in mountain sparkling wines.

Pesticides and PFAS in wine: Swiss test raises alarm. A survey by Saldo magazine reveals that over half of the red wines analyzed contain pesticides, while nearly all white wines are clean. Italy is among the countries involved in the test.

Smart tractors in vineyards: the silent revolution . Vineyards become laboratories of mechanical and electronic innovation. New lightweight, narrow tractors collect and analyze soil data, improving agronomic precision. Italy stands out worldwide for high-tech miniaturization.

Garattini and "Carcinogenic" Wine. Professor Silvio Garattini reiterates his position: "It's how much you eat that matters, not when. And wine, red or white, remains an alcoholic and carcinogenic beverage." A warning that reignites the debate between health and wine culture.

INTERNATIONAL WINE AND TRADE POLICY

UIV and Brussels: No to US tariffs on wine. Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of the Italian Wine Union, met with European Commissioner Šefčovič to strengthen the alliance with the US market. "Tariffs harm everyone, including the American supply chain," he stated. Diplomacy and trade are at the center of the European discussion.

Julia Vineboo and wine in the age of artificial intelligence. The case of the young influencer overwhelmed by AI rekindles the debate on the relationship between authenticity and technology in the world of wine. Opportunity or threat? The line is becoming increasingly blurred.

Barbera d'Asti Wine Festival: the youthful spirit of Monferrato. From November 7th to 10th, Asti hosts the festival dedicated to Barbera d'Asti DOCG. Tastings, meetings, and young producers celebrate Piedmont's iconic grape variety with a sustainable and contemporary twist.

Usini and "Le Notti del Vino" (The Nights of Wine) From November 10th to 15th, the Sardinian town becomes a stage for culture and experiential tourism. This initiative, part of the Città del Vino network, combines local identity with a national vision.

WINE CULTURE AND NARRATIVE

Tannin Strike: The Saga of Warrior Grape Varieties. A surreal and poetic tale that transforms Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto into protagonists in an enological duel between acidity and tannin. An exercise in imagination that turns wine into a metaphor for character and harmony.
