Recioto della Valpolicella attempts revitalization by becoming a Slow Food Presidium . The celebrated red passito from Verona becomes the first DOCG wine to be recognized as a Slow Food Presidium. At the same time, the Valpolicella Consortium has initiated a review of its production regulations: a two-pronged effort to safeguard a symbol of Veronese viticulture, currently reduced to 400,000 bottles.

 

A white wine from the land of Primitivo: Gianfranco Fino launches “Sedicimila” From Manduria comes the new challenge of the Apulian producer: a pure Fiano, harvested in 2024. “A wine I believe in deeply,” says Fino, whose name recalls the medieval history of the Fiano vines introduced to Puglia by Charles II of Anjou.

Roberto Giacobbo and technology "for a wine from another era." The science communicator, now a producer with the Terre di Maria winery, explains how the "Neolitico" line combines ancient craftsmanship with modern harvesting techniques. "To produce a wine from another era, you need modern technology," says Giacobbo.

MarrubiuM: Mattia Vezzola and the Apulian rebirth of Masseria Le Fabriche The Brescian winemaker is leading the project commissioned by Rinaldo del Bono: one hundred hectares of olive groves and vineyards, in the heart of Salento's red earth, to restore the centrality of Maruggio's winemaking vocation.

Tedeschi presents the great reds of Valpolicella in Florence. At the Borgo San Jacopo restaurant, the historic Veronese winery showcased the soul of Amarone and its centuries-old connection to the region, in an event dedicated to excellence and the pairing of food and wine.

Stefano Antonucci's Santa Barbara winery wins the Best Rosé award. Sensuade 2024 wins the title of Best Rosé Wine, confirming the role of Marche wines among Italy's finest.

The Schioppettino di Prepotto Producers' Association has renewed its mandate. A new board of directors and ambitious goals are underway to strengthen the "Schioppettino di Prepotto" brand, a symbol of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Riccardo Caliari (Spolert Winery) is the new president.

The 100 Best Wines and Winemakers of Italy 2026 Awards go to Chiara Pepe (Emidio Pepe) and Orlando Rocca as Young Winemakers of the Year; special recognition goes to Feudi di San Gregorio and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii for best winemaking project.

L'Espresso crowns the best in the glass and on the plate. "110 cum laude" awards go to Ferrari Trento, Castello di Ama, Alta Mora, Cogno, Rosso, and Podere Forte; "five hats" go to 21 top-notch Italian restaurants, including Villa Crespi and Osteria Francescana.

Wine and the nightmare of tariffs: small producers aren't afraid . During "GiovinBacco" in Ravenna, local winemakers speak of resilience and confidence. "We don't export, so the tariffs don't scare us," says Giuseppe Turi (Tenuta Nero del Bufala).

Lollobrigida: "The tariffs will have no effect on Italian wine." The Agriculture Minister downplays the effects of the US measures: "American consumers will not give up our wines."
