  • 16/10/2023

Vinventions recently commissioned a carbon footprint study for the Nomacorc Green Line range of closures which stand out as the only wine closures currently on the market with a net zero carbon footprint.

This analysis was done in accordance with ISO 14067:2018, as required by the most recent environmental legislation regarding greenwashing behaviors. Sustainability is central to Vinventions and crucially influences its strategic decisions. Sustainable Development, based on verifiable facts, serves as a guiding principle within Vinventions, ensuring the group's environmental integrity and credibility in the wine closure market. Vinventions engaged RDC Environment to conduct a comprehensive carbon footprint study of the Nomacorc Green Line and South Pole product line for third-party review and certification.

Nomacorc Green Line: a great innovation Each closure of the Nomacorc Green Line (Smart Green, Classic Green, Select Green and Reserva) is produced from sustainable and renewable raw materials derived from sugar cane. The product line, inspired by the company's strong desire for innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement, offers notable advances in the performance, aesthetics and sustainability of wine closures. In addition to having a Net Zero Carbon Footprint, the Green Line also guarantees TCA-free wine closures, precise oxygen management and perfect consistency, eliminating variations from bottle to bottle. Analysis carried out in accordance with current standards Vinventions has chosen RDC Environment to calculate the carbon footprint of the Nomacorc Green Line according to ISO 14067:2018. Founded in 1992, RDC boasts a team of 25 engineers and economists, all enthusiastic supporters of sustainable development and specialists in life cycle analysis. For Nomacorc Green Line closures, the Net Zero Carbon Footprint assessment included an end-to-end analysis of the product's life. The carbon impact of the raw materials and shipping to the production site in Thimister, Belgium, the impact of the production of the closures, the distribution to European wineries and finally the impact of the end-of-life management of the closures were calculated. Each Green Line closure is different, generating different results. However, all analyzed closures from this product line have a negative carbon footprint ranging from -0.4 g CO2eq (for Smart Green closures) to -1.3 g CO2eq (for Select Green 300 closures).

A concrete value to the sustainable approach of our customers

"Ca' dei Frati has been using Nomacorc Green Line closures since 2017, after numerous tests starting in 2015 and frequent trips to Belgium, where the Vinventions headquarters are located. For us – declared Maria-Chiara Dal Cero of Ca' dei Frati - the Nomacorc cork represents an enveloping closure, guardian of unaltered quality, it allows us reliability over time revealing the authentic soul of the wine. In our case, we chose the Select Green cork for all our references, such as the Lugana I Frati, among the best known, and the Reserva cap for Amarone della Valpolicella Pietro Dal Cero. Nomacorc is a true champion of sustainability, the zero carbon footprint of these closures fits perfectly with our philosophy. "

Conclusion Following ISO 14067:2018, as required by the latest environmental legislation on greenwashing behaviors, Nomacorc Smart Green, Classic Green, Select Green and Reserva stand out as the only wine closures currently on the market with a net carbon footprint zero.
