Power and richness outline the personality of the new vintage

Ripe al Convento 2017 , the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva produced on the CastelGiocondo estate by the Marchesi Frescobaldi, is now available on international markets to be tasted. Extraordinary power and richness characterize the new vintage, the result of a summer that will be remembered for the high temperatures, positively mitigated by the elevated position of the vineyard which has thus made it possible to preserve the finesse and elegance that have always identified this label.

The CastelGiocondo estate, counted among the first producers of Brunello di Montalcino since the beginning of the 19th century, is not only a founding element in the history of the denomination but also the place where the Frescobaldi family, owner since 1989, has always looked to the challenges of the future and the potential evolutions of this wine-growing area, dedicating resources to agronomic and oenological experimentation.

The estate, dominated by the ancient stronghold of 1100, stands out for its heterogeneity in terms of altitudes and soil composition. Of the more than 800 hectares that make up the property, 235 are currently dedicated to viticulture. Here the vineyards are nestled between wooded areas that develop between 250 and 450m above sea level creating real micro-terroirs and which see, going up, soils characterized by blue clays, Pliocene sands and marl . This great variety has allowed Marchesi Frescobaldi to experiment with different clones and rootstocks, obtaining some of the most valuable expressions of the denomination, characterized by a stylistic hallmark that makes elegance its distinctive feature.

The union of history and research has led to the creation of a wine that represents the apex of Frescobaldi's work in the area: Ripe al Convento - Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG.

Cru of the CastelGiocondo estate, since its debut year it has been produced from a selection of grapes from a single vineyard . On the highest hills , a small plot of Sangiovese has been identified where, thanks to the altitude of 450 m above sea level, exposure to the hot afternoon sun, schistose and marly soils and healthy Mediterranean winds, a Riserva di Brunello di Montalcino of extreme elegance, personality and longevity .

Ripe al Convento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2017 has a fascinating intense and brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections on the nail. The nose reveals hints of red fruits, among which blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries and raspberries stand out. The floral notes of violet flanked by hints of wild rose are inevitable. The central olfactory phase is dominated by both tertiary and spicy aromas, with black pepper in the foreground followed by nutmeg, which gives pleasant notes of fermented tobacco and black tea, cedar wood and hints of undergrowth. Even the tannic texture is the one that always characterizes Ripe al Convento, decisive and caressing at the same time. The relationship between the freshness given by the beautiful acidity and the round component due to the generous body is balanced. The very intense finish is very long and remains with pleasant sensations on the palate.
