Consorzio Chianti Colli Fiorentini: "Growing numbers that bode well"

  • 15/02/2023

Positive news comes from BuyWine Toscana 2023, the international showcase dedicated to DOC, DOCG and IGT wines, now in its thirteenth edition.

During the event dedicated to the meeting between the Tuscan companies producing PDO and PGI wine with denomination of origin produced in Tuscany and international trade operators, encouraging data emerged, on which Marco Ferretti, president of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Consortium, dwelt. , the association involving 28 manufacturing companies from the Chianti area and Florence.

"There are companies in our Consortium that recorded up to 20% of sales in 2022 compared to 2021" - says Marco Ferretti - "There are those who even boast 67% of sales between large-scale distribution and catering, up to 72% % in the internal point of sale, with a good 2% in exports against an average price that has grown by 20%, numbers supported by 65% for wine experiences, including tastings, visits and presences in agritourisms". Precisely in relation to the tourist context, Ferretti admits that this has helped to increase margins in the past year: "The work done with the tour operators who aimed to channel tourists, especially foreigners, to our hills was certainly profitable where you can find good wine without making long journeys from the city centre. The work done on the city, in terms of tourism, has given good results, but the first growth factor is the excellent quality-price ratio that the Consortium is able to guarantee". The only discordant note, for Ferretti, are the costs of supplies and raw materials, on which he claims that "without the super costs of energy and raw materials, we would have finally put some money back in our pockets after the investments made". But, after a period of uncertainty, there now seem to be prospects of potential constant growth on the horizon which bode well for the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Consortium and its producers.

The Consortium Chianti Colli Fiorentini

The Chianti Colli Fiorentini Consortium was founded in 1994 by a small number of winemakers with the dual purpose: to improve quality and promote the denomination. Its symbol is the "Marzocco", the rampant lion that appears on the Tower of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence - only instead of the spear held by the lion is there a glass of wine to signify the close link between today's production reality and the ancient Florentine tradition. Over time, the Consortium has gained more and more consensus and now has 28 members who represent over 52% of the production.

The Chianti Colli Fiorentini denomination covers a large hilly area in 16 municipalities bordering Florence: Barberino Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Montespertoli, Certaldo, San Casciano Val di Pesa, Montelupo Fiorentino, Lastra a Signa, Scandicci, Impruneta, Florence, Bagno a Ripoli , Fiesole, Pontassieve, Rignano sull'Arno, Pelago, Reggello, Incisa Figline.
