  • 18/05/2026

The surge in arrivals from Italy reflects Armenia's growing attractiveness, improved accessibility, and a rich offering of opportunities related to culture, short-term stays, and experiential tourism.

Armenia continues to strengthen its position as an emerging destination for Italian travelers and is seeing a significant increase in tourist arrivals. In 2025, the number of visitors from Italy reached 22,669, a 40.7% increase compared to 2024. This positive trend confirms the Italian market's growing interest in Armenia, driven by the country's unique combination of cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and engaging travel experiences.

Armenia offers a diverse and increasingly attractive tourism offering: from ancient monasteries, such as the imposing Tatev Monastery perched above the Vorotan Gorge, to UNESCO sites such as Geghard Monastery and the Upper Azat Valley , to mountain trails and extensive hiking routes that crisscross Armenia, such as the Transcaucasian Trail , not to mention outdoor activities and a vibrant food and wine scene rooted in one of the world's oldest winemaking traditions. The capital, Yerevan, plays a key role in this growth, captivating visitors with its vibrant atmosphere, cultural events, contemporary cuisine, and urban dynamism, making it the ideal starting point for exploring the country.

Improved accessibility is also contributing to the growth in arrivals. Direct flights to Yerevan operated by Wizz Air (from Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, and Bari) and FlyOne Armenia (from Bergamo and Rome) make Armenia an increasingly easy and convenient destination to reach, encouraging both leisure tourism and short-term breaks.

The Italian market's positive performance reflects a broader growth trend. In the first quarter of 2026 , Armenia recorded an overall increase of 18.2% in international tourist arrivals compared to the same period in 2025, confirming the country's continued momentum in the global tourism landscape.

“This strong growth in the Italian market highlights Armenia's growing recognition as a destination offering engaging, authentic, and diverse travel opportunities,” said Lusine Gevorgyan, Chair of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Armenia . “We see an ever-increasing demand for rich travel experiences, and Armenia is ideally positioned to meet this need thanks to its rich cultural heritage, diverse natural landscapes, and welcoming hospitality.”

The Tourism Committee of the Republic of Armenia continues to strengthen its presence in key international markets, collaborating with industry partners to further enhance the destination's awareness and support sustainable tourism development.
