Trequanda and Pucciarella: slow wine tourism that counters overtourism

  • 03/06/2026

Tastings, picnics, country walks, and beekeeping experiences allow you to experience the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside in a slower way, far from the crowds.

The Pucciarella (Perugia) and Trequanda (Siena) farms, leading companies for Umbria and the area between the Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana in Tuscany, are inaugurating new hospitality options for summer 2026.

In 2025, the two farms owned by the Cariplo Staff Pension Fund embarked on a journey of winemaking and hospitality renewal, focusing on quality, local recognition, and conviviality. This process culminates in a wine tourism offering characterized by simplicity and authenticity.

Pucciarella , on Lake Trasimeno, offers three different types of activities, starting with tasting packages: Speed , Classic , and Premium . These include tastings of three, four, and five wines of your choice, respectively, accompanied by a platter of local cheeses and cured meats for the latter two. Groups of ten or more can also book a light lunch on the farm featuring local specialties. The Picnic for Two package is designed for couples, who can purchase a basket of cured meats and cheeses and a bottle of Pucciarella wine, to be enjoyed in the estate's beautiful park. Beewatching is also available for groups of ten or more, in collaboration with Apicoltura Galli, and is available on Thursdays and Saturdays by reservation only. Visitors can safely observe the hives and learn about hive life through creative educational workshops, especially designed for children. The experience concludes with a snack of bread and honey. The company has also developed the Nel cuore di Pucciarella walk, a 2.4 km route through the estate's vineyards and olive groves, which includes panoramic views of the bucolic landscape and places to spot local wildlife.

In nearby Tuscany, far from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism yet close to prized cultural and natural sites, Trequanda is the perfect base for a slow-paced experience of the Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana regions. The farm owns one of the largest herds of Chianina cattle, which can be admired grazing on the estate's meadows during the summer months. Starting in June, every Wednesday at 6:00 PM, Trequanda will host a Picnic at the Oak Tree : at the farm's restaurant, guests can purchase a box of local delicacies and a bottle of wine from their selection. Visitors can also enjoy the scenic viewpoint, shaded by an ancient oak tree overlooking a solitary wheat field, set up with pallets and table linens.

Both Trequanda and Pucciarella offer short or extended stays . This Tuscan estate welcomes tourists in two different locations. Residenza Matteotti is a historic 16th-century building just steps from the square in the ancient medieval village of Trequanda. It comprises 19 apartments for an authentic, homely, and comfortable stay. Agriturismo Montecerroni , outside the village and surrounded by pastures and vineyards, is a property comprising 10 apartments recently renovated in a refined, rural style, with a private outdoor space and a large shared garden. Pucciarella , on the other hand, offers 11 spacious apartments within the recently restored medieval castle dating back to 1717. The property is immersed in lush, well-kept nature, featuring rows of vines, olive trees, and a noble heritage forest, enhanced by a large swimming pool with Jacuzzi reserved for guests.

Pucciarella Winery | A leading wine tourism company in Umbria, the green heart of Italy, with its 300-hectare estate between the municipalities of Magione and Corciano (Perugia) overlooking Lake Trasimeno. A pioneer of the Metodo Classico in the region and a leading producer of the native Trasimeno Gamay, Pucciarella stands out for its regional and contemporary wines, the result of modern techniques and sustainable practices.
