From November 7th to 10th, Asti returns to the spotlight with the Barbera d'Asti Wine Festival , an event promoted by the Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato Consortium that celebrates the region's most authentic soul with tastings, meetings, and insights into the great Piedmontese wines. Four days in which producers, experts, and enthusiasts gather in Piazza Alfieri for an immersive experience in the world of Barbera and its appellations.
Sunday 9th and Monday 10th November will be the occasion to explore the different souls of Monferrato through 4 exclusive masterclasses held at the Chamber of Commerce of Alessandria-Asti, by some of the most important experts on the international wine scene.
" Through these masterclasses, we aim to offer an in-depth experience that combines knowledge, culture, and the pleasure of wine, highlighting the value of Barbera and our denominations in the international wine scene, " says Vitaliano Maccario, President of the Barbera d'Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium . " We believe the Barbera d'Asti Wine Festival is a moment of encounter and sharing that strengthens the bond between the Consortium, the city of Asti, and its territory. It's an opportunity to showcase the work of producers, promote the quality of our denominations, and raise awareness, even to an international audience, of the extraordinary energy that animates Monferrato and its community ."
On Sunday 9 November at 11:30 am , journalist Veronika Crecelius , an authoritative writer for the German magazine Weinwirtschaft , will host “ The great vintages of Barbera d'Asti DOCG ”, a journey through time and the region to tell the story of the evolution of the symbolic grape variety of Monferrato.
Following this, at 1.30pm , an appointment with “ Barbera Style, Search for Drinkability ” with Aldo Fiordelli , a prestigious name for James Suckling, who will offer an in-depth look at one of the most distinctive and surprising grape varieties of Monferrato.
In the afternoon at 3:30 pm, oenologist and Master of Wine Pietro Russo will lead “ Il Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG: styles, vintages and territory ”, exploring the balance between tradition and modernity and the growing attention towards elegant and contemporary wines.
On Monday the 10th at 10:00 a.m., the masterclass " Barbera, a gentle grape. The elegance and quality of Barbera d'Asti DOCG " led by Costantino Gabardi , international consultant and taster, will highlight the refinement and complexity of the grape variety that is the symbol of the area.
The four events are part of the rich program of the Festival which will open on Friday 7 November with the inaugural talk “ Sorsi di Futuro: sustainability, young people and the wine territory ”, moderated by the deputy director of La Stampa Federico Monga , with the participation of Vitaliano Maccario , President of the Barbera d'Asti and Vini del Monferrato Consortium, the starred chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo , Stevie Kim founder of Italian Wine Podcast as well as authoritative names in Piedmontese journalism.
On Saturday 8 November, there will be space for flavours with a show cooking by starred chef Gianluca Renzi (Le Cattedrali), followed by a Sensory Aperitif .
On Sunday, November 9th, the festival kicks off with meetings with producers and tastings open to the public, allowing visitors to discover the thirteen denominations protected by the Consortium.
A DJ set will provide the backdrop for Saturday and Sunday evenings, during which guests can enjoy cocktails made with some of the Consortium's designations for an immersive experience.
Monday, November 10th will be dedicated to industry professionals, the press, and buyers, with meetings in Piazza Alfieri.
