The fifth edition of "Oltrepò: Terra di Pinot Nero," the event organized by the Consorzio Classese Oltrepò Pavese to celebrate 160 years of Italian blanc and rosé de noirs and to promote Pinot Noir, the symbol and driving force behind the identity of an extraordinary territory, concluded with great success.
The event, which took place on September 21st and 22nd in the beautiful village of Golferenzo, was attended by a large and enthusiastic audience, including wine lovers, journalists, industry professionals, and institutional representatives.
Over the two days, the spotlight was on the region's finest wines: the Metodo Classico DOCG—destined to become Classese —and the Pinot Noir DOC vinified as a red wine. Tastings from 29 wineries , tastings, and in-depth discussions on the blanc and rosé de noirs offered the public and industry professionals a unique insight into the culture and winemaking identity of the Oltrepò.
The event is set against a historic backdrop: 160 years since the first bottles of sparkling wine were produced in Rocca de' Giorgi in 1865 by Counts Carlo Gancia and Augusto Giorgi di Vistarino. Today, this anniversary is celebrated with the approval of the new regulations introducing the name Classese, marking the birth of the world's first winemaking process entirely based on the Classic Method from Pinot Noir, vinified as a white or rosé.
" This edition of Oltrepò: Terra di Pinot Noir powerfully conveys the image of a united and determined territory ," said Francesca Seralvo, President of the Classese Oltrepò Pavese Consortium . " The event's success demonstrates that the path of quality and collaboration is the right one. We've celebrated 160 years of history, but above all, we've laid the foundations for a future of innovation, recognizability, and identity. Oltrepò believes in its Pinot Noir and its Metodo Classico: with Classese, we want to proudly affirm our vocation and take it ever higher ."
The event confirmed its dual purpose: on the one hand, a moment of celebration and encounter for the public; on the other, an opportunity for high-level technical and professional discussion, capable of generating new prospects for the denomination and strengthening the bond between the region, institutions, and operators.
With this edition, the Classese Oltrepò Pavese Consortium renews its commitment to promoting a 160-year history and building—through quality, identity, and innovation—the future of a great Italian denomination.
