The cost of cellar visits is among the new features of this edition of the Wine Tourist Guide

Numbers and data to investigate the choices and orientations of wineries from north to south of Italy.

The new 2024 edition of Cantine d'Italia, the Guide for Wine Tourists edited by Go Wine, has been released.

The presentation and awards event was held last November 30th in Milan at the Hotel Melià, in the presence of a large audience of journalists, representatives of the wineries selected in the volume, and wine enthusiasts.

Cantine d'Italia 2024 presents itself with 852 selected wineries , 262 "Imprints of excellence" for wine tourism, over 4,640 recommended wines , around 1,600 useful addresses for eating and sleeping.

It is a Guide to Cellars, with its own specific identity, which has the cellar as its reference.

Also as a symbolic place, today an increasingly popular destination for many wine enthusiasts and also as a physical place where wine men and women work and plan their work, where they are bearers of family stories and traditions, or of more recent investments.

A guide designed for wine tourists and invites you to walk through the Italy of wine, which is a beautiful vision of Italy made up of many places, roots and traditions, but also an expression of the ability of many winemakers who make their wines travel all over the world bottles and promote attention and the pleasure of going to know the places where the wines are born.

The visit to the cellar, the cost

It is the most important innovation of this edition and also marks a necessary adjustment in terms of communication. From a factor once based on spontaneity, from an element of novelty in the life of the winemaker, the visit to the cellar has increasingly established itself as an important theme dear to many wine enthusiasts and strategic for many wineries.

The theme of price was thus inserted as a factor to be known and in any case to be monitored.

Cantine d'Italia 2024 thus asked over 700 wineries to indicate in the questionnaire the cost of a basic experience in the cellar and the cost of a more complete experience.

Leaving full freedom in responding, also assuming free entry for a basic experience and in any case paying attention to analyzing the data and behavior of the wineries.

An important and in some respects unique screening is born which also renews the contents of the volume and opens a new front of analysis and information.

Some data

Over 400 wineries responded; the Go Wine editorial staff left freedom in responding, even non-response represents a choice.

The sample collected is nevertheless indicative because it crosses wineries from all Italian regions and with different profiles: that is, larger and more structured wineries also in terms of staff organisation.

But also many family-run wineries, where the winemaker often plays multiple roles, including welcoming and telling wine tourists.

Proceeding to calculate an average, the average cost of a basic experience is identified as €20.17 . The cost for a complete or at least a top experience rises to €49.79 , according to the parameters that each winery identifies when formulating the proposal.

Out of the selected sample, there are less than 15 (4%) wineries that do not have an "entry" cost even for a basic experience, 62 (15%) cost 10 euros or less.

As for the complete experience, the survey found 34 wineries offering a cost above 100 euros.

Equally interesting is reading the data in the various areas in Italy. It is thus noted that, in the north, the average cost of a basic experience is €19.41, while it rises in the south (€21.59).

The reference also corresponds to a more complete experience, with an average cost in the north which settles at 43.25 euros and rises in the south to 52.97 euros.

Looking at some regions, the cost is higher in Tuscany (22.17 euros), compared to Piedmont (20.07 euros) for the basic experience, the same for the top experience: Piedmont 48.86 euros, Tuscany euros 62.82
