The third edition of Berebianco, last Saturday 10 May at The Westin Excelsior Hotel in via Veneto, brought to the Capital the characteristics and stories of the best white wines of the Bel Paese.
Over 1000 enthusiasts who crowded the rooms of the historic Dolce Vita hotel to meet the great wines of Berebianco 2025. The presence of the trade press and professionals was also important and numerous, exceeding 180 units. And again, staying on the numbers, the free tasting included over 160 wines proposed in multiple vintages to allow the public to understand their evolution; and then the six masterclasses, all fully booked, which guided the participants on a journey into the world of evolution, tasting wines up to the 2005 vintage. The masterclass dedicated to Falanghina del Sannio , organized in collaboration with the Sannio Consorzio Tutela Vini , opened the event: ten labels were proposed to testify to the importance of a wine that in the collective imagination is considered a ready-to-drink product, to be consumed young, while over time it manifests all its captivating character. “We want to promote the best Italian white wines,” says Francesco D’Agostino , director of Cucina & Vini , “those that, with a few exceptions, are not released in the spring following the harvest. These are wines that require time to mature in the winery and then in glass to reveal themselves completely, those wines that industry insiders around the world call white wines for aging. A definition that seems innocuous,” continues D’Agostino, “but which in reality generates a certain awe in the occasional consumer, given that the topic of aging is commonly limited to red wines.”
Great active participation of the public during all six masterclasses on the old vintages, which had the merit of arousing real emotions in those who tasted, even managing to perceive the deep and inseparable bond between a vocated territory and the winemaker. An aspect that is clear to insiders, less known among consumers who are taken on a journey through history, traditions, science and knowledge.
“ There is a world behind our best Italian white wines! - concludes D'Agostino - It can inspire awe, but the glass, thanks to its inviting complexity, is able to dissolve it instantly. This is the challenge we have launched with Berebianco since its first edition three years ago and year after year it increases the awareness of having taken the right path”.
Berebianco will return in 2026 with the same formula : bringing together the best Italian whites in one place, listening to the producers' stories, tasting engaging and seductive old vintages during the masterclasses. In the meantime, however, the agenda of events signed Cucina & Vini has another great appointment on the calendar: that of Tuesday 1st July with Bererosa 2025 in Rome in Villa Appia Antica, for the great tasting dedicated to Italian rosé wines, still and with bubbles!
