CONFEDERAL STAND from 14 to 17 April

Every year the Piedmont Region nominates a grape variety as "vine of the year" with the aim of highlighting the wines and cellars linked to that given grape. The proclamation takes place, as per tradition, by the Department of Agriculture of the Piedmont Region during Vinitaly and so it was for Erbaluce in the 2023 edition of the Verona event. The white grape variety, symbol of the Turin area, has been, since April 2023, under the spotlight and the subject of numerous events organized by institutions, consortia and private individuals.

Confagricoltura Torino has included the three types of wines covered by the Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG whenever possible, in all the events held in 2023, with visibility not only territorial, but also national and international as on the occasion of the Nitto ATP Finals which for the third year consecutively they had Turin as their stage.

At the end of the calendar year and in consideration of the fact that the producers of Erbaluce di Caluso Docg , the main denomination linked to the vine, are almost all associated with Confagricoltura Torino , our Confederation organized the Erbaluce Day in the heart of the Savoy capital " A day with Erbaluce in Turin ”. The event, on Monday 6 November 2023, brought the Canavese cellars to the city centre. More than 200 people - many restaurateurs - gathered at the stalls set up by the producers and were able to taste the three types of wine covered by the DOCG. The tasting was preceded by a press conference which, to the large representation of authorities and journalists present, presented the definitive production data for the 2022 harvest and the forecast data for 2023.

It is therefore necessary to close the year of celebration of the Turin white grape variety with an event of significant resonance called " Erbaluce di Caluso, the Turin DOCG ", where this promotion process began, at Vinitaly . A presentation of the area where the Erbaluce grape is grown and a guided tasting of Erbaluce di Caluso Docg in the three types indicated in the production specifications: still, Classic Method sparkling wine and passito. Hosted by Alessandro Felis , director of Cronache dell'Agricoltura of Confagricoltura Torino , the meeting will see the participation of Gian Luigi Orsolani , vice-president of Confagricoltura Torino and president of the wine section of the Confederation and the director Maria Luisa Cerale , as well as Bartolomeo Merlo , president of the Consortium for the Protection and Enhancement of the Caluso Docg and the Carema and Canavese Docs and Corrado Scapino , president of the Regional Wine Cellar of the Province of Turin.

A single grape, eclectic, whose peculiar characteristics allow us to obtain three types of wines that are completely different from each other but always with excellent results. There will be five samples for tasting*, provided by the Confagricoltura Torino wineries present at the Verona event, as in addition to the sparkling wine and passito, the still wine will be classic, cold-macerated and aged for a year in steel tanks.

The 2023 harvest was good, with adequate acidity and lower alcohol content compared to the exceptional 2022 harvest, characterized by a very dry summer. Production in the Calusia area paid for the spring hailstorm with around 20% less in some areas.
