Consorzio Vini Oltrepò Pavese is preparing for the season of international fairs

  • 11/02/2023

A large tasting counter and two masterclasses, conducted by the journalist Luciano Ferraro, editor-in-chief of Corriere della Sera, and by the sommelier Bruno Ferrari.

The calendar of national and international promotional events that the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese has put on the agenda for the beginning of 2023 is packed. It starts with a focus on "Oltrepò land of Pinot Noir", organized with AIS Milano at The Westin Palace Hotel in Piazza della Repubblica, Monday 13 February 2023.

We continue with the Slow Wine Tour in the USA , with a series of appointments ranging from the West to the East Coast: San Francisco on March 6, Seattle on March 7, Dallas on March 9, Miami on March 13, to conclude in New York on March 14th. A market, the American one, which promises great openings for the wines of the Oltrepò denominations that are facing an important internationalization project.

This will be followed by the inevitable appointment in Düsseldorf for Prowein , from 19 to 21 March, which, in addition to being a global showcase, is of specific interest for the large German market: an opportunity not to be missed. It will then be the turn of Vinitaly in April and the London Wine Fair in May.

A rich series of international opportunities for a territorial sector that is gaining enological attention for three flagship DOCs: Pinot Noir, Bonarda and Riesling and a classic method DOCG. A viticultural area with great history and tradition that ranges in terms of identifying vines from Croatina to Barbera, Riesling and native vines such as Uva Rara, Ughetta / Vespolina characteristic of fascinating blends that we find in the Buttafuoco and Sangue di Giuda DOCs.

Sustainability is a global need and a response to consumers

The challenges of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese pass through the protection of the environment, the desire to innovate, without, however, forgetting the lessons that come from the past.

" Sustainability, ecological transition, digitization of cellars : they are all connected, synergistic words and they are certainly not fashionable words, to be used lightly" says President Fugazza. "They are the priority of those who believe in a sustainable development model , where the first word, which I would define as the driving force, i.e. sustainability, is also the most complex one. This, because it carries within itself various inspiring principles and models for redevelopment and development actions economic and social as well as ethical".

"I don't know if there is a right moment to start innovating. I know that many have already left for some time, even in Oltrepò Pavese, sometimes even unconsciously. I think it is useful, all together, to measure forces and understand the potential, evaluating how much We have already covered a long way without being scared of what we still have ahead. It is a very intriguing challenge and by participating in meetings and collective moments between members, wineries and the world of wine, one always perceives a certain enthusiasm. And that's what it takes to overcome reluctance and to give together more future to the earth and to the man who values it with conscience. It is not only a productive conscience but also a human and social one. And it is a positive economy. The cellars are a little more digital every day, they have I had to do it by force, perhaps, but for sure no one will go back. And this awareness too becomes constructive, one step at a time".
