Cocchi celebrates its 135 years of history at Vinitaly 2026 : meet in Pavilion 10 stand Q3 .
In 1891 , in Asti , a young Tuscan pastry chef named Giulio Cocchi opened a distillery next to the medieval Baptistery of St. Peter. He couldn't have imagined that this decision would give rise to one of the world's most recognizable brands of premium aromatized wines and sparkling wines. One hundred and thirty-five years later, the Cocchi name evokes an unmistakable identity, recognizable in every glass of Vermouth di Torino, Barolo Chinato, Americano aperitif, or Alta Langa DOCG . An identity that has never been limited to preservation, but has always embraced contemporaneity and innovation.
INNOVATORS BY VOCATION
Giulio Cocchi wasn't just a talented craftsman: he was a visionary. He created the original recipes that still form the basis of his production, as well as pioneering decisions for his time: patents for new machinery, a factory to directly process citrus fruits, the key ingredients in his formulas, and a network of tasting branches that extended from the province of Asti far beyond the region's borders.
It was he who took Americano Bianco and Barolo Chinato out of domestic use, transforming them into products for a wider market. A distribution and communication model that today we would simply call modern.
This spirit continues to guide the company: in its commitment to protecting Barolo Chinato, in the relaunch of Vermouth di Torino as a category of excellence, in the creation and promotion of the Piedmontese classic method denomination, Alta Langa DOCG. Quality—in the vineyard, in the cellar, in the selection of medicinal herbs—remains its defining characteristic.
HOSPITALITY IN OUR DNA
Cocchi began with a bar. Even before mass production, the bar was the place where vermouth and sparkling wines found favor with the public. Between the 1910s and 1920s, the number of branches grew to twelve, some of which are still operating today.
Bar Cocchi in Asti, located in Piazza Alfieri, has remained unchanged over time: a lounge, a meeting place, a space where quality is expressed through firsthand experience. A welcoming vocation that makes the HoReCa sector a natural partner.
TWO FAMILIES, ONE VISION
Cocchi has always been a family business. Giulio was supported by his wife Giuseppina and his children, including Federico, who spearheaded the brand's international expansion. In the 1970s, Federico's daughter Adria passed the baton to Piero Bava.
Since then, three generations of the Bava family have led Cocchi with the same leadership. Winemakers in Monferrato since the 17th century, the Bavas have brought a modern vision without breaking with tradition: the result is a cult brand on the international scene, rooted in the region yet globally oriented.
With Piero Bava and his three sons, Roberto, Giulio and Paolo, and with his grandchildren Francesca, Giorgio and Andrea, new chapters are added to the Cocchi story year after year.
COCCHI AND PIEDMONT
Since 1891, Asti and Piedmont have been much more than a backdrop: they are the origin of everything. The grapes, the medicinal herbs, the drinking style, the very aesthetics of the products: every production choice reflects the identity of this land. Cocchi is a proud ambassador of this identity around the world.
COCCHI AND THE WORLD
Internationalization began early and boldly: in 1935, Federico Cocchi opened a Cocchi Bar in Asmara. Then came Caracas, with Casa Cocchi de Venezuela. Then, in the 1950s, New York, with the first vermouths shipped overseas, destined for Italian emigrants and the markets of a New World yet to be conquered. Today, Cocchi is present in over 70 countries, in the finest wine shops, restaurants, and cocktail bars on every continent. A presence built over time, with elegance and distinction.
ONLY WINE-BASED PRODUCTS
The choice is clear, and has never been in question: only wine-based products. Vermouth and flavored spirits made using historic recipes—Barolo Chinato, Americano Bianco and Rosa, Storico Vermouth di Torino, Vermouth di Torino Dry, and Vermouth Amaro DopoTeatro—alongside Piedmontese sparkling wines, including the historic classic method of Piedmont, Alta Langa DOCG.
A coherent production line that enhances the oenological and botanical knowledge accumulated over a century.
STAMP 135
To mark the 135th anniversary of its foundation, the Cocchi Vermouth labels will be adorned with a commemorative stamp.
