International, gastronomic, contemporary, sustainable . It's Trebbiano , an eclectic wine, simple and never boring, popular in its diffusion, the 'backbone' of Romagna viticulture, today capable of intercepting new consumer trends. Trebbiano was celebrated recently by Terre Cevico at an event in the Alfonsine winery attended by over 600 people, including the cooperative's membership, experts, winemakers, press, and enthusiasts. The event symbolically brought together land and sea, with Trebbiano offered in its diverse and multifaceted versions—from the Sparkling Wines of Romagna to the still version, to the wine-based aperitifs—paired with seafood options featuring Adriatic fish grilled by the Fishermen of the Cesenatico Cooperative.
The day began with greetings from the mayor of Alfonsine, Riccardo Graziani, who highlighted how Cevico is a " cooperative group with solid roots in our local community that also serves as a regional garrison for the social impact it provides to the community ." Mirco Bagnari , territorial coordinator for the province of Ravenna for Legacoop Romagna, emphasized how " cooperation is able to address the challenges of the global market, so much so that Cevico today exports to over 90 countries worldwide ."
President Franco Donati spoke about Terre Cevico's Trebbiano project: " Until a few years ago, thinking about a project that focused on Trebbiano was an act of courage. We, along with our membership, believed in it, and the results are comforting. I believe it is our duty as entrepreneurs and cooperative managers to understand new consumer trends and develop a response to today's young people, who will be tomorrow's consumers. The goal is to produce, communicate, and internationalize Trebbiano, and be proud of it ."
Paolo Galassi, General Manager of Terre Cevico , took stock of the market and the evolution of Trebbiano consumption. “ Until 2001, packaged Trebbiano produced less than 700,000 liters, today we've reached over 9 million. Its promotion began many years ago with the conventional wine project in brick format, which later evolved into organic Trebbiano and other types of formats, with a growing presence in other markets. Our leadership in this product category, which saw the denomination change from Trebbiano IGT under the Sancrispino brand to an organic wine version, already allowed us to attract the attention of major players in large-scale retail trade. Trebbiano's advantage lies in its eclectic nature, as it can be produced in various styles (still, sparkling, mixology) and containers .”
The market response to exports and the Italian restaurant channel has been positive . " Regarding exports ," Galassi continues, " I'll cite two examples from countries that are culturally distant from our traditions: in the last 12 months, in Japan alone, we've sold 1 million bottles of sparkling wine, and even the sparkling wines sold in Sweden, through a project dedicated to a single customer, are in line with this figure. Italy is currently experiencing significant growth in the restaurant channel; we're currently selling 800,000 bottles of this wine category, with an 8% growth trend ."
Terre Cevico is a leader in the sparkling wine sector, producing over 10 million bottles in the last year . Growth is also beginning to consolidate in the mixology segment (e.g., Spritz, Bellini), where Trebbiano is the base for 16 products now in regular rotation. In this segment of the Terre Cevico catalog, non-alcoholic or low-alcohol versions, known as "NO.LO," have been available since 2024, primarily to tap into the new consumption styles associated primarily with Generation Z consumers.
During the event in Alfonsine , speakers presented Terre Cevico's Trebbiano project: Valter Bighini, winemaker in charge of the cellars; Guido Cavina, Agronomy Manager; Luca Frulli, Terre Cevico Investment Manager; and Vincenzo De Luca, Terre Cevico Winemaking Manager. Guest speaker Giovanni Solaroli, journalist, lecturer, and AIS communicator, author of the book "Trebbiano. A Universal History" (Il Ponte Vecchio publisher), provided an overview of the grape variety: Trebbiano Romagnolo is the most widespread variety in Romagna, with 14,000 hectares under cultivation, equal to 50% of the region's total area of 28,000 hectares (source: Consorzio Vini di Romagna).
Terre Cevico stands out in this panorama with its 3,616 hectares of vineyards in Romagna (90% Trebbiano), 992 members, including winemakers and associated wineries, and a consolidated turnover (2024/25) of €213.2 million. Cevico ranks ninth among the top 12 Italian wine players, with the best performance in terms of revenue growth of 3.4%. (Source: Mediobanca, May 2026).
Who is Terre Cevico?
A first-level cooperative group with 3,616 hectares of vineyards in Romagna, 992 members, including winemakers and associated wineries, Terre Cevico achieved consolidated revenues of €213.2 million in the 2024/2025 financial year, a net profit of €1.98 million, a shareholder capital gain of €8.3 million, and net equity of €78.5 million.
It is present in 90 countries worldwide with a new, highly specialized network – Galassia – which brings together the sales forces of its subsidiaries Medici Ermete and Cantine Giacomo Montresor, with exports of packaged wines reaching €70.9 million. The Italian market is growing in value in the large-scale retail channel, with €55.8 million (11%), and the Horeca channel is worth €16.3 million (10.9%).
Trebbiano and Sangiovese are the main wines produced, and as with Trebbiano itself, they also serve as the base for the production of Romagna sparkling wines, semi-sparkling wines, and sparkling wines, all produced entirely within the group. In addition to direct production at the group's own winery, 32 member wineries contribute wine. These wineries operate under the group's coordination, producing wines and winemaking projects with a strong territorial identity, such as Cantina Braschi in Mercato Saraceno (FC) and Tenuta Masselina in Castel Bolognese (RA).
Beyond the borders of Romagna, the group controls companies such as Medici Ermete - Reggio Emilia, Cantine Giacomo Montresor - Verona and Orion Wines - a company from Lavis (TN) with a cellar and vineyards at Masseria Borgo dei Trulli in Maruggio
