The 13 edition of the Piccolo Opera Festival of Friuli Venezia Giulia , which until 13 September will bring opera music to castles, ancient residences, historical gardens of the region, enters the heart of its programming with the first of the three Concerts - event foreseen by the program conceived by the artistic director Gabriele Ribis.
On August 21 at 20.00, in a symbolic location such as Piazza Capitolo in Aquileia , "LISZT E TOMADINI" will be held, a spectacular and engaging concert of sacred music that also wants to remember a historic anniversary, or the 600th anniversary of the fall of the Patriarchal State of Aquileia . Franz Listz's Requiem will be performed which, in memory of the victims of the pandemic, will have a particularly pregnant meaning. The performance will be preceded by a tribute to the bicentenary of the birth of the Friulian composer Jacopo Tomadini, of which Anima Christi will be performed. The musical direction will be by Igor Zobin, the Piccolo Opera Festival choir will be prepared by Elia Macrì. The solo voices will be those of Andrea Galli (tenor), Alessandro Cortello (tenor), Giorgio Caoduro (baritone), Massimiliano Svab (bass) with elements of the Glasbena Matica Orchestra of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tadeja Kralj (harp) and Roberto Lizzio (organ). The show - realized with the support of the Municipal Administration of Aquileia and Credifriuli - will be free , with mandatory booking , which can be done online from the website www.piccolofestival.org , or by contacting the number 3664218001, or booking@piccolofestival.org .
Franz Listz (1811-1886) wrote the Requiem for four solos (two tenors and two basses), male choir, organ, trumpets, trombones, timpani between 1867 and 1868, apparently in the wake of the emotion for the tragic death of Maximilian d 'Habsburg, as well as the disappearance of his mother and daughter. The one who is believed to be the most brilliant Hungarian composer wrote a great deal of religious music, but much of it is very rare to perform, despite being the greatest harmonic innovator of the 19th century. The concert therefore promises to be particularly interesting also for this reason.
Jacopo Tomadini was born on 24 August 1820 in Cividale, in a humble family (his father was a carpenter). He completed his musical studies in his hometown with Giovanni Battista Candotti. Started on a brilliant musical career, he received job offers from the Basilica of San Marco in Venice and from the Duomo in Milan, and even, as an organist, from the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. Tomadini always refused, preferring the tranquility of the ducal city. He was in correspondence with Liszt, who admired his work and wanted to meet him in person. However, this meeting never took place, probably due to the introverted character of the Cividale composer.
The Piccolo Opera Festival, despite the difficulties caused by the problems of the post pandemic, did not want to miss even this summer its music, made possible by the fundamental support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (Department of Culture and Sport and Department of Productive Activities), by the Chamber of Commerce of Venezia Giulia, the Friuli Foundation and the municipal administrations of the places where the shows are held.
