The North and South of the Peninsula meet on Sunday 5th and Monday 6th November in Piana Rotaliana for the third edition of Incontri Rotaliani , the biennial event organized by the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg Tourist Consortium with the cultural association Alteritas Trentino - Interazione tra i people, under the direction of Alessandro Torcoli, director of the magazine Civiltà del bere.
In a Piana Rotaliana cloaked in autumn colours, during the event spread across the municipalities of Mezzocorona, Mezzolombardo and San Michele all'Adige, Teroldego will meet the wines of Etna : two days full of conferences, guided tastings and tasting stands with producers open to everyone, from enthusiasts to industry specialists. After Burgundy and Rioja, host territories of past editions, this time the prince of Trentino wines will be compared with whites and reds from Etna, cradle of varieties such as Carricante and Nerello Mascalese.
I walk around tasting - tasting tables with producers
The culminating moment of Incontri Rotaliani will be the walk around tastings which will be held on Sunday 5th at the Cantina Martinelli in Mezzocorona and on Monday 6th at the Intermunicipal Library of Mezzolombardo , again from 3pm to 6.30pm. By purchasing the entrance ticket of 25 euros (with a 20% discount for members of the main sommelier associations), you will be able to taste more than 50 labels, including Teroldego Rotaliano, Teroldego grappas and Etna wines and spirits , served by Trentino and Sicilian producers. There will also be tastings of typical gastronomic products and a mixing desk with a professional bartender who will prepare grappa-based cocktails.
Conferences and wine talks
A wine talk and a series of conferences with free admission are dedicated to those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the territories involved in the event (but registration is preferable). On Sunday 5th, from 10 to 12, at the San Pietro Theater in Mezzolombardo we will talk about wine territories and there will also be guests from Burgundy, as well as from Piana Rotaliana and Etna. While on Monday 6th, from 9.30 to 12, at the Edmund Mach Foundation in San Michele all'Adige, a team of high-level speakers, including producers, professors and experts in various disciplines, will discuss soil characteristics, viticulture and oenology , establishing a dialogue between two territories Piana Rotaliana and Etna apparently distant from each other.
In-depth masterclasses
There is also great anticipation for the six masterclasses scheduled (five dedicated to wine and one to grappa), tastings led by leading professionals in the sector. The ticket is 30 euros for each meeting, always with a 20% discount for members of sommelier associations. It starts on Sunday 5th at Cantina Martinelli, at 2.30 pm, with the preview tasting of the Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva led by the journalist Stefania Vinciguerra of DoctorWine. To continue, at 4pm, with the wine educator Cristina Mercuri who will talk about variable geometries: the Piana Rotaliana meets "A Muntagna". At 5.30pm it will be the turn of sommelier Fiorenzo Detti, a great expert in the universe of spirits, who will compare the art of distillation between Trentino and Etna. On Monday 6th the location of the masterclasses will move to the Intermunicipal Library of Mezzolombardo, where, at 2.30 pm, the sommelier and wine writer Adua Villa will present the winners of the VI Territorial Wine Competition of the Edmund Mach Foundation. At 4pm Alessandro Torcoli will talk about the styles and districts of Etna with the collaboration of the denomination Consortium. To conclude with a comparison between wines of the 2020 vintage from the two areas led by journalist Aldo Fiordelli.
