Italian Red Wine Verduno

Description of the wine: Verduno Pelaverga has always been considered an aphrodisiac wine as it is easy to drink and for its spicy and fragrant aroma, structured but at the same time graceful. Organoleptic characteristics: The Verduno wine has ruby red color, more or less intense, with shades of cherry or violet. It has an intense, fragrant, fruity and spicy aroma, and in the mouth it is dry, fresh, characteristically velvety and harmonious. Historical-cultural information and curiosities: The origins of this wine date back to between the late 1400s and early 1500s. A legend tells that in 1700 a priest from Verduno brought from Saluzzese some cuttings of Pelaverga. The wine, as entered in the court of Charles Albert and became known as an aphrodisiac, cheered the life of the building, which became very "busy"! Because of parasitic diseases and the two world wars, the production of Verduno stopped until, in the seventies, it was was saved from extinction thanks to some entrepreneurs. Serving suggestions: Verduno is considered a wine for the whole meal and matches very well with different types of dishes: grilled white and red meats, roasts, stews, main courses with meat or truffle sauces, cheese from fresh to medium-seasoned. To try also pairings with dry pastry. Production area: Territories in the province of Cuneo. Vines that are allowed to produce it: Pelaverga small (minimum 85%). Black grapes suitable for cultivation in the Piedmont region, up to a maximum of 15%, can contribute to the production.
